Allied - Vertraute Fremde

Es ist bestimmt vereinfacht, aber in schönen Kleidern des Retro-Hollywoods, dem man es leicht verzeihen kann. Der Film ist auch überraschenderweise nicht kitschig. Spannend und finster, schon nur wegen der Atmosphäre der düsteren Zeit, in der sich IHRE GESCHICHTE abspielt. Eine perfekte Regie, mit kalter Professionalität, ohne einen Druck auf Emotionen, welchen wir von Zemeckis erwarten würden. Und auch ohne große Liebesmotive, die man bei Silvestri voraussetzen würde. Weil es ein so toll geschriebenes Drehbuch mit so einer starken GESCHICHTE nicht braucht. Das Ende hat mich absolut platt gemacht. (08.02.2017)

Zemeckis and Burgess revel in subtle camera-special effects, but instead of a marital drama, they unwittingly chart a cheesy WWII romance where sex is the equivalent of a desert storm and a Luftwaffe precision strike family picnic. These images, painstakingly copied from Spielberg, including Williams' score, only prove that some genres are passé even for experienced storytellers. The film is subjectively four hours long. If it weren’t for the botoxed Brad Pitt and several scenes that reeked of Hollywood, where for instance a couple makes love in the midst of a sandstorm in Morroco and Marion Cotillard then gives birth during an air raid of London, I would be literally excited about the movie. I haven’t seen such great war atmosphere for a long time, which actually is no wonder. Robert Zemeckis is a great director and he’s truly great at creating high-quality atmospheres. The ending of the movie was also literally aced, but I guess Angelina Jolie probably wouldn’t share my excitement… (09.03.2017)

Robert Zemeckis is considered a visionary, but at the core, he is and will always be old-fashioned. And that old-fashionedness is insidious, because Allied pretend to be a Moroccan war trifle for a while, later transforms through intense action interludes into an honest drama, and then doesn't recoil from flirting with a good amount of tension. Over time, additional layers of storytelling are added, and in the end, there remains a taste of a pleasantly genre-defying spectacle that makes one forget about the overly drawn-out pace of the first act. Knight doesn’t write bad stories and when he pays homage to Hollywood classics like Casablanca, he manages to add an element of modernity. Pitt’s cold fish Max Vatan melting in the arms of Marion Cotillard in action scenes is still an effective killing machine and the spying game is much more convincing than usual. Details, details and more details. Zemeckis has made a strong genre piece with abundant gleaming camera shots and, the occasional feeble special effect here and there doesn’t matter in the slightest. A quality romantic wartime drama about family, love and good people in a difficult situation. Ideal for a date. (30.01.2017)

Robert Zemeckis schwelgt gerne in der Vergangenheit, und all seine berühmten Filme aus den späten 1980er und frühen 1990er Jahren sind voller Abenteuer, Leidenschaft und Freude, die nur das Medium Kino selbst vermitteln kann. Auf der Jagd nach dem grünen Diamanten, Zurück in die Zukunft, Falsches Spiel mit Roger Rabbit, Der Tod steht ihr gut... Es hatte immer einen Hauch von der guten alten Zeit. Und Allied - Vertraute Fremde sind in der Tat die gute alte Zeit, der Film bezieht sich auf Casablanca, bietet Action, Spionage, Romantik, parodiert nicht einmal in den Szenen mit den Nazis, sondern erinnert nur nostalgisch an die Zeit, die wir romantisch idealisieren. Emotionally, it's a bit of a cold story that ironically, especially at first, moves quite slowly, but Zemeckis does repair his reputation after the botched The Walk, as Allied may not work as well as a romantic drama, but it certainly works as a WWII spy film. Brad Pitt, of course, as has been the case for the last 10 years, is appropriately wonderful, and Marion Cotillard is traditionally, by eye contact, properly inscrutable. It's not an exemplary hit, but it's filmmaking from a filmmaker who rarely gets it really wrong. It has all the classic filmmaking frameworks that meet at least the standard, plus an absolutely lavish form with at least three over-the-top sequences and a beautifully stylized Morocco set to Silvestri's music. A film with Zemeckis’s perfect craftsmanship, powerfully emotional, atmospheric, with wonderful performances by Pitt and Cotillard, the nonchalant score by Silvestri, and sensitively photographed by Burgess, right on the scale of a soberly edited retro trip. A precisely balanced blend of romantic drama and dark historical backdrop that creates an immensely immersive aura and gradually builds under the cauldron to a chilling, crushingly unyielding finale. A small great cinematic event that will sadly fade quickly into obscurity, but it’s nonetheless a wonderful and valuable revelation in contemporary Hollywood conventions. 90% (16.02.2017)

Einfach toll! Das Einzige, was ich von Allied - Vertraute Fremde gesehen hatte, war dieser Boulevard-Humbug, der um sie entbrannte. Ehrlich gesagt, ich würde mich nicht wundern, wenn zwischen Marion und Brad während der Dreharbeiten irgendein Funken übergesprungen wäre. Ich meine, biologisch und psychologisch ist es gar nicht möglich, wenn sich zwei solch attraktive und unwiderstehliche Menschen begegnen und tragische, schicksalsergebene Liebende spielen sollen. Wie es war, wissen nur die beiden, ich jedenfalls glaube, dass Marion Guillaume treu geblieben ist. Ich bin unglaublich froh, dass ich auf FilmBooster keinen Satz zum Inhalt gelesen haben, denn dann hätte ich den Film nicht anschauen müssen, der Hauptplot und die Handlungswende wurden in der Mitte des Films verraten. Glücklicherweise konnte ich den gesamten Film genießen, ohne vorher Informationen darüber zu haben. Einer der besten Filme des Jahres 2016, besser als zwei Drittel der für einen Oscar nominierten Streifen. (07.03.2017)

Neither great nor terrible. As usual, the enemies run straight into the fire of the heroes, who are then able to leave the scene without any consequences. Then the film morphed into some sort of a romantic drama with war used only as a backdrop to the story. The situation was saved by the ending. A happy one would have clearly been unfortunate in this case. (09.04.2017)

Brad Pitt is great, Marion Cotillard is excellent, and Robert Zemeckis knows how to film a scene that will be aesthetically intriguing at first glance. He chose an interesting story for his next film, but I just couldn't get into it, and this otherwise strong dramatic romance just didn't quite captivate me. (10.02.2017)
