Was bringt eine Königin in den besten Jahren (Julia Roberts) so richtig auf die Palme? Die ersten Fältchen? Die Ebbe in der Staatskasse? Ja, das auch – vor allem aber, dass ihre gerade 18 gewordene Stieftochter Schneewittchen (Lily Collins) schöner sein soll als sie! Da kann sie sich noch so sehr in die leeren Taschen lügen: Der Zauberspiegel hat recht. Und als dann noch der schöne Prinz Andrew Alcott von Valencia (Armie Hammer) ein Auge auf das nichtsahnende Mädchen wirft, steht fest: Schneewittchen muss weg! Kurzerhand verbannt die böse Königin ihre Stieftochter in den Wald. Doch die lässt sich nicht so leicht unterkriegen. Sie trifft die Sieben Zwerge, die sich als Gelegenheitsdiebe durchschlagen, und schmiedet mit ihnen einen Plan: Die Herrschaft der bösen Königin zu beenden und das Herz des Prinzen zu erobern. Tarsem Singh is a misunderstood and underappreciated individual. Whatever could be said about his previous films is entirely true here as well. Singh once again captivates with visuals and bizarre ideas that are not to most people's taste, but I appreciate him all the more. This was a very playful and enjoyable film. That it sometimes descended into infantile humour? So what. And the Bollywood wink at the end made me very happy. PS: Phil Collins can be proud of his daughter.

This fairy-tale was pretty chill. For example, the costumes the Indian director picked for the characters were literally perfect. When Julia Roberts came to that wedding wearing a dress that was at least three meters wide, I was gaping at the screen. Unfortunately, you can rely on an Indian to botch it all up with the Bollywood-style tacky ending. Even though I had a good feeling about the movie the whole time I was watching it, the ending vexed me a lot. So if you opt to watch this Snow White, I recommend you turn it off at the moment when things start coming to the end. Otherwise you’ll be treated to Bollywood dancing, overly cheerful singing and laughing faces, and the entire filming crew shouting and dancing to a tune which is completely at odds with the previous fairy-tale atmosphere, shooting it down brutally like Big Bertha, the huge German heavy siege gun.

Schneewittchen in seiner traditionellen Form wurde bereits vor dem Krieg von Disney konserviert, so dass alle anderen Versuche, diesen Klassiker wiederzubeleben, mehr oder weniger ambitionierte Überbauten sind. Da dieser Stoff so ein goldener Gral geworden ist, hat Disney nie eine offizielle Fortsetzung zugelassen, und die Konkurrenz muss sich immer etwas Neues einfallen lassen. Von solchen Ideen können wir an die niedlichen kleinen Zwerge oder, im Gegenteil, die Geschichte des Grauens erinnern, Tarsem Singhs The Brothers Grimm: Snow White kommt in der Zeit von Snow White and the Huntsman und nolens volens müssen beide Filme miteinander konkurrieren. Das ist ein bisschen schade, denn vom Genre her handelt es sich immer um etwas anderes. Das ist ein schauspielerisches Solo für Julia Roberts, die in einer neuen komödiantischen Position agiert, die sich nicht anbiedert und etwas Neues ist. Was außerhalb der Szenen mit ihr passiert, da hat man sich zwar gehenlassen, es ist aber auch nicht schlecht. Interessante Tricks, aufwändige Kostüme, ein ungewöhnliches Konzept des Prinzen und Dialoge, die man in einem Märchen nicht erwarten würde, das ist es, worum es hier geht. Die letzte Tanznummer ignoriere ich, weil sie so unorganisch ist (wie in Slumdog Millionaire).

Am Anfang hat der Film so interessant ausgesehen. Ich habe naiv gedacht, dass die Geschichte von Schneewittchen diesmal aus der Perspektive der Königin, die Julia Roberts wirklich perfekt dargestellt hat, erzählt wird. Ich hätte kein Problem damit, ihr die Daumen zu drücken. Leider lag ich falsch, es gab keine Finte im Sinne von "wir werden Sie mit dem Trailer in die Irre führen“. Die Königin hat nach und nach immer weniger Raum bekommen. In den Vordergrund wurden infantile Witze, unerträgliche Zwerge und weitere überflüssige Seltsamkeiten und seltsame Überflüssigkeiten gestellt. Am Ende war ich so verblödet, dass mir das Videoclip-Finale gefallen hat. Für das Ende, für Julia Roberts und Menkens Musik bekommt der Film zwei Sterne. Aber keine Zacke mehr. Das, was der Film mit der Figur der Königin macht, drückt ausgezeichnet die Szene aus, in welcher sich Julia Roberts ihr Gesicht mit…ähm…Vogelkot einschmieren lässt. Dann wird es nur noch schlimmer.

I went to the cinema to see the film "Snow White". Well, let's face it, it was only because there was a special offer in the cinema, when the film was only for 50 CZK and "Snow White" was the only film that interested me and my girlfriend. After the film "Immortals", I thought that the director Tarsem Singh couldn't disappoint that much again, especially since the trailer was quite funny, which attracted me because it was not a classic fairy tale, but mainly a comedy. I was mistaken. The best jokes were in the trailer, the rest of the film was less funny, rather occasionally quite awkward. But it maintained a good pace. The story focused on Snow White herself, played by Lily Collins with insanely thick eyebrows. The second center of the story is Julia Roberts and her character as the evil queen/witch. Julia is good, but some lines were really terrible. I don't know if it was the dubbing, which was not exactly perfect, or if it was the original script, but some lines just fell flat like rotten pears. However, the dwarves saved it, especially Jordan Prentice, Martin Klebba, and Danny Woodburn, but they worked quite well as a whole. The story is a bit of a parody of the original fairy tale, a parody that is sometimes quite adult and not so interesting for children. But there is still enough for children too. Sean Bean also appears briefly, with an unenviable and small role. And then comes the finale. Someone should give Tarsem Singh a good scolding and tell him that Indian music is nice, but it should be saved for classic European fairy tales. The finale is crazy, kitschy, and absolutely unsuitable. It completely ruins the impression of the film. It's a pity because it could have been even funnier. Eine wirklich seltsame Interpretation der Schneewittchen-Geschichte, aber mir hat sie trotzdem gefallen. Ich weiß nicht, warum man in einer märchenhaften Geschichte nach Komplexität oder dramatischen schauspielerischen Leistungen sucht. Es war ein schöner Film zum Relaxen, und ich habe mich wirklich gut amüsiert. Außerdem hat mich das verrückte Ende überzeugt.
