Der junge Polizist Billy Costigan wird in die Mafia eingeschleust. Undercover soll er sich das Vertrauen von Syndikatsboss Costello erarbeiten, um diesen zu Fall zu bringen. Gleichzeitig macht Colin Sullivan, ein enger Vertrauter Costellos, eine steile Karriere in den Reihen der Polizei - bis er schließlich auf Costello selbst angesetzt wird. Als die beiden Spione erfahren, dass es auf der jeweils eigenen Seite einen Maulwurf gibt, beginnt ein gefährliches Katz-und-Maus-Spiel. (ProSieben)

Deutsch Departed – Unter Feinden ist ein Remake von Infernal Affairs - Die achte Hölle. Einen Vergleich mit diesem asiatischen Knaller wollte ich vermeiden. Wenn man aber das Original kennt, in dem die Geschichte schwungvoller und übersichtlicher dargestellt wird und in dem die Figuren keine oberflächlichen Poseure sind (Jack Nicholson), wird Sie Departed – Unter Feinden nicht beeindrucken. Außerdem ist die asiatische Optik des Originals für Europäer exotischer als das abgedroschene "dreckige Amerika". Klar, Martin Scorsese und sein Hofkameramann sind Meister ihres Handwerks. Man langweilt sich nicht, die Darsteller*innen gehören zu der Schauspielelite und der Regisseur genießt die psychologische Arbeit mit den Figuren. Der Film hat aber einen schlechten Nachgeschmack. Man spürt, dass ihn die Autoren nicht so liebevoll wie Aviator gemacht haben. Nur Leonardo DiCaprio hat sein Bestes gegeben, er war mit ganzer Seele dabei. Noch ein paar solche Rollen und er kommt in meine persönliche Liste der TOP 5 Schauspieler*innen. Ansonsten ist Departed – Unter Feinden nur ein solides Polizei-Mafia-Drama. Die US-amerikanischen Zuschauer*innen machen sich nur wegen des Finales in die Hose, weil sie in Hollywood so etwas nicht kennen. 4* hat der Film im Rahmen der zeitgenössischen US-amerikanischen Produktion verdient, aber sicherlich nicht im Rahmen der Filmografie des Regisseurs. Ich werde mir diesen Film gern noch einmal anschauen, ich bin aber ein bisschen enttäuscht. ()

Englisch It’s against nature, but Marty is getting younger. This is the kind of fucking entertaining film that even a young kid in the director’s chair wouldn’t be ashamed of. Those almost two and a half hours passed by like water. In the case of the ensemble cast, it's pointless to comment on DiCaprio and Nicholson, they're chapters unto themselves, so I'll just single out the much-maligned Damon (that perfect smarmy crooked character, I can't imagine it could have been played any better) and especially Wahlberg (!!!), whose brilliantly written lines were a joy to listen to, and his banter with Baldwin made me laugh out loud. After the screening, I remembered Steven Spielberg's words that he "doesn't have to prove anything to anyone anymore and just wants to have fun with movies", I feel the same way about The Departed. I probably wouldn't give Scorcese an Oscar for it, in the context of his previous, albeit more notable work (if does get it, it will be mainly "for merit"), but it's gratifying that underneath the skin of the grey professor emeritus, there's still that old familiar rebel from the days of Mean Streets and Taxi Driver :) ()

Englisch Four stars for that beautifully dry ending, but as a whole it didn’t really thrill me. There are a lot of big names, but the best is DiCaprio, he’s really unlikeable, but his performance is great. His antagonist, Matt Damon, in contrast, is a jerk at times, not because he’s bad, but because I didn’t find him believable in the role. The story moves along quite slowly, there aren’t any proper turns until about the middle and before that, you have to put up with a lot of dialogues that are supposed to be vulgar, dirty and tough, but they are clearly fake and forced. For me, The Departed deserves 75%. ()

Englisch At the blessed age of sixty-four, Martin Scorsese delivers a gangster flick so precise that his colleagues a generation younger can only be quietly envious. The 150-minute trip amongst the highest police and mafia brass is told with incredible ease, the utmost sense of the perversity of both worlds (conveyed through the fatal love of one woman), and an absolutely divine dose of chilling black humor. You won't find an unnecessary movie window in this work, let alone a scene. Scorsese once again stylizes violence as a normal routine aspect of life, which he breaks at the very end only to play lightly with the viewer and show that even he doesn't have to take himself deadly seriously. The cast of the greatest actors is interspersed here, from the riveting DiCaprio to the relaxed Damon (any talk of overacting is bullshit!), the diabolical Nicholson, and to the absolutely brilliant Mark Wahlberg. Everything is underlined by stylish musical accompaniment, starting with Pink Floyd and ending with the thrilling punk blast of Dropkick Murphys. After finishing the film, I had only one desire: to watch this concentration of perfection again! ()

Deutsch Scorseses aufgespeedete Regiearbeit und großartige Schauspieler schaffen es bis zum Ende, die Tatsache zu maskieren, dass diese Geschichte über Polizisten, Ratten und Geheimagenten einen viel zu trivialen Handlungsstrang enthält, in dem es im Gegensatz zum sprichwörtlichen Infernal Affairs - Die achte Hölle keinen Raum für tiefergehende Psychologie oder Überraschungen gibt. Dennoch ist dies ein Thriller, den wir uns atemlos anschauen und in einem unglaublichen Erzähltempo genießen können. Die Frage lautet allerdings, ob mehr als einmal. ()

Englisch When I decided to go see Hidden Identity, contrary to my original intention, I was firmly convinced that I would not try to compare it to the original. In a movie where the best moments are those that exactly copy it, I can't do otherwise. As for the star-studded cast, DiCaprio, Damon, and Sheen are great, Baldwin and Wahlberg are average, and Farmiga and, to my huge surprise, Nicholson are terrible. Especially in his role in The Departed, he proves why the remake should not have been made. Instead of a subtle gangster leader, Costello is a sleazy and unnecessarily vulgar arrogant, who doesn't care about anything or anyone, and the screenwriters added a stupidly behaving female character between the two main heroes, which further diminishes the credibility of their mutual duel. And above all, I won't forgive Scorsese for one fundamental thing: the suspenseful, emotionally charged, and, in my eyes, forever unforgettable final scene in the elevator, which was the highlight of the original, became a farce in the remake, cramming three twists into a few seconds, and the absurdly portrayed final shootout of the main characters provoked a deserved and almost incredulous mockery in the theater. Scorsese destroyed a film that could have redefined the gangster genre, but instead he only dissected the original and wildly twisted it - and that has earned him everything possible, except for the promised pinnacle of his career. ()

Englisch I am not familiar with the Asian film Infernal Affairs, which forms a precursor to The Departed, and given my relationship with Asian productions, I am skeptical about the idea that it could interest me more. However, I don't have to address the lack of originality of the subject matter and how Scorsese dealt with it. Nonetheless, it is an interesting film that fully satisfies me on an emotional level. The duel of two professionals who infiltrate the enemy camp to gather information is full of tension and twists. A clever film with excellent casting, led by Leonardo DiCaprio. Overall impression: 90%. ()

Englisch And this is an Oscar-winning movie? Marty’s weakest work? Ha ha. I haven’t yet seen Infernal Affairs yet, so I should avoid comparing them. The beginning is boring as hell. Plus, I have nothing against cussing and vulgarity, but too much of a good thing... The screenplay must have been awful for a start and the actors must have agreed to do it just because of Scorsese. And what does the Fox say? “You can’t build on wobbly foundations"? But not to be too critical. DiCaprio is really good and the end is quite interesting for an American movie (but not really, when I remember that the story originates from Asia). ()

Englisch This arrogant, self-absorbed mainstream ride is supposed to be the best film of this year that has won so many Oscars and other awards? I can't believe it. Martin Scorsese should wake up to the reality of today's world after those beautiful years and understand that “American” stories of tough guys are no longer in fashion and he should stop trying to replicate or hint at the unattainable pieces of his past work. The quality of The Departed, whether it is a good or a bad remake, can only be judged by someone who has seen both films, which I am not, so I take this film as a separate compact entity without any comparisons or regret about how it should have been. However, as a crime story, it is insufficient. There is an excessive amount of vulgarity, with a good half of it being unnecessary. The plot is far-fetched – tough guys, tough lines, shootings every day – just a normal day in the big city. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but this is really overdone and off-putting. For fans, it may be an entertaining film that shows Scorsese makes movies for fun and doesn't worry too much about it, but for the overwhelming majority of rational-minded laypeople, it's just a typical American hyped-up ride without a trace of real subtext. And the Oscar “for merits” is quite laughable considering the previous works of the famous film connoisseur. ()

Englisch I was really looking forward to this. Power. But maybe too much. The Departed is certainly not a bad film, but from beginning to end I couldn’t get rid of the impression that it's primarily a film that drags on and is unnecessarily long. Yet the number of minutes (the great Casino is even longer, whilst the absolutely fantastic The Irishman is even longer than Casino) is not the problem, but rather what they are filled with. I don't know the original, but it's three quarters of an hour shorter, and I wouldn't be surprised if all that seemed boring or unnecessary here was the work of William Monahan and Martin Scorsese. ()

Englisch I'm glad that Scorsese finally won his Oscar, and I'm even happier that it was because of this film. After a long time, a thoroughbred gangster movie, where the bad guys are tough and ruthless, the good guys are unreadable, and the script is so perfectly thought out and built up that my mouth formed a beautiful O when it was over. So many directorial ideas and impressive scenes for one film, it's almost a shame, but I'm certainly not complaining. I was surprised by Leonardo DiCaprio, who gave probably his best performance yet, he imbued his character with great charisma and didn’t lag behind the always excellent Nicholson. But I was even more impressed by Mark Wahlberg, who was given the biggest role of his career ahead of time, and he played it in an unforgettable way. Hands down the best film of the year, thanks to which Scorsese got it back to the academics with interest. ()

Englisch Although it is a remake, Martin Scorsese convinces that he is one of the greatest modern directors still making films. For me, he ranks right alongside Stanley Kubrick, the director whom I admire the most. "Shutter Island" is a brilliantly shot film, where you can see how easily Scorsese adapts to modern filmmaking, how he plays with the camera, how he plays with every scene and story. Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and also Mark Wahlberg deliver absolutely amazing performances, and the latter especially surprised me, showing that under good direction, he can truly act well. An amazing film, where I was literally entertained by the final killing. ()

Englisch Big Marty on top again. An absolutely superb gangster film in every respect, whose greatest asset is the excellent work with the actors and the perfect rising action. Mark Wahlberg might just have the least amount of space here, but the way he manages to use even that minimal space is fantastic. I almost pissed myself laughing during some of his lines. Martin Scorsese just keeps directing like crazy, his films have incredible balls, and any bullshit about the lack of character psychology or underdeveloped plot or buried point or messing up the original only speaks to a viewer's impotence, which manifests with wildly excessive masturbation over parroting pseudo-art films. I always expect the highest level of entertainment from Scorsese, and The Departed is a fabulous flick with no compromises, and moreover packed with superstar actors. It's even better the second time around and the third time around... Well, I won't go into that here :)))) ()
