Angst

Kargls erste und letzte Tat ist eine sehr frostige und unangenehme Darbietung, dazu fast stumm, unterbrochen von gelegentlichen Monologen der Hauptfigur. Diese ist ein psychopathischer Wahnsinniger, der sofort nach seiner Entlassung aus dem Gefängnis ans Töten denkt. Nachdem ihm der Mord an einer Taxifahrerin nicht gelingt, sucht er sich eine dreiköpfige Familie in einem abgelegenen alten Haus aus. Und natürlich ist es eine Familie, mit der er ungewöhnlich leicht arbeiten wird. Nun, stellen Sie sich vor, dass eine alte Frau im Rollstuhl und eine junge Blondine sicherlich keine Gegner für ihn sein werden. Und nein, das junge Mädchen ist nur dafür da, dass der verrückte Held sich an ihr austoben und sie kaltblütig ausnutzen kann... Danach geht es nur noch um das etwas langwierige Loswerden ihrer Leichen, was ihm nicht gerade am besten gelingt. Das Ende an der Tankstelle kam mir jedoch reichlich dämlich vor. Henry war besser. Well, this is a tough nut to crack. On the one hand, it’s frighteningly disturbing in its simplicity and brutal eloquence, but on the other hand, it’s unpleasantly amateurish and terribly distant. It seems to me that the only motive of the film is to try to be shocking, and that alone is not nearly enough for a quality result. Especially when the main character of the homicidal maniac comes across as an utterly disgusting and confused individual whose deviant behaviour must be a thorn in the side of any viewer capable of logical thinking. I didn't care about the killer's inner monologues accompanying the scenes of violence, because I didn't even want to know anything specific about this inhuman and twisted being. But then again, we have to remember that such people do live among us, and from that perspective Fear becomes a controversial and disturbing thriller worth watching. I even think that there is material for a very interesting remake... 55% (01.06.2013)

A very disturbing look at the rampage of a murderous individual who has just been released from prison. It’s a very unpleasant and nasty film that won’t improve your mood. (06.01.2012)

The film "Angst" tries to connect psychology with brutality, which is relatively openly depicted in the movie. This together creates a rather depressing view of the overall events, a perspective that leads you to immerse yourself in a burdensome atmosphere. On its own, the film does not excel in many aspects and represents what you would expect from a similar film. Nevertheless, it is well-directed and has its effect. (11.05.2016)
