Als eine archäologische Expedition in einem unzugänglichen Höhlensystem in Nordamerika eine bislang unbekannte Parasitenart entdeckt, ahnt noch niemand, wie gefährlich diese „Wespe“ genannte Spezies tatsächlich ist. Doch einmal freigesetzt, mutieren und vermehren sich diese Urzeitmonster nicht nur, sondern greifen bald auch Menschen an. Ihre Opfer finden sie dank ihres feinen Gehörs: Schon das kleinste Geräusch lockt eine Unzahl von ihnen an. Die einst so laute Welt verstummt. Die gehörlose Ally (Kiernan Shipka) und ihre Familie ziehen sich in die Wälder zurück, denn überleben lässt sich nur noch in völliger Stille. Gefahr geht aber auch von anderen Menschen aus, wie die Familie bald erfahren muss: Im rücksichtslosen Überlebenskampf ist jedes Geräusch ein potentielles Todesurteil. Und dann kreuzt eine bedrohliche Sekte ihren Weg, die es ausgerechnet auf Ally abgesehen hat… (Constantin Film)

Ein zweitklassiger Klon von A Quiet Place und Bird Box – Schließe deine Augen gleichzeitig. Daran sind wir als diejenigen, die hauptsächlich die "Kino-Produktion“ kennen, gar nicht gewöhnt. Natürlich sprechen wir hier hauptsächlich vom Drehbuch und der Regie. Production values kann das genügend gesicherte Netflix gut bewachen.

While watching this movie, I realized that Netflix shamelessly rips off other movies to make their own B-flicks. POMO already mentioned that this film takes a lot from A Quiet Place and Bird Box; I will add that the musical aspect is a brutal rip-off of Han Zimmer’s organ music from Interstellar. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story and there was enough suspense to keep my attention. If I am to rate this movie apart from its lack of originality, it is good enough for three stars.

John R. Leonetti, director of Annabelle, has a shot with Netflix and delivers a little sibling to A Quiet Place and Bird Box about killer bats and it's sadly just average. Leonetti is a solid cinematographer, but he hasn't been very successful as a director so far. The main family is quite likeable but the post-apocalyptic road-movie movie line doesn't surprise with anything; pretty much everything has been handled better in previous films and the bats look decent but for my taste they didn't have that much room to show off (the gore is almost non-existent). Luckily it doesn't get boring, there is the occasional suspenseful scene, but A Quiet Place and Bird Box were both much better. 55%

Netflix hat nach Bird Box – Schließe deine Augen ein neues Buch gefunden und adaptiert, dessen Stoff ein bisschen A Quiet Place ähnelt. Und es wurde daraus wieder ein guter (und für die heutigen Verhältnisse sympathisch kurzer) Film, der sich von den beiden vorgenannten Streifen hinreichend unterschiedet, um nicht nur als eine Kopie betrachtet zu werden. Kiernan Shipka und Stanley Tucci sind prima, die fleischfressenden Wespen wirken genau so, wie sie wirken sollen, und wenn Hunderte von ihnen auf der Hochspannungsleitung sitzen, erinnert man sich an Hitchcocks Die Vögel. Die spannendste Szene kommt aber in dem Moment, wenn die Handys klingeln.

The Silence won’t squeeze out your last drop of fear and it’s not very stimulating or even original horror, either, but it does manage to generate a captivating atmosphere and to draw a realistic portrait of societal collapse. The ending arrives too suddenly, perhaps, but the short runtime justifies it and the viewer not only won’t get bored, but also will find a way to relate to the characters and their situation.

The German horror film The Silence is very much spoiled by the fact that it is a film that essentially acted as a funeral for A Quiet Place. It's definitely not that good, and not just in its originality. The problem is also that the film lacks a truly oppressive atmosphere and incredible tension, often caused not by the scenes themselves, but simply by the screenwriter who didn't know what to do with it.
