»Ein böser Ort«, schießt es der 16-jährigen Kit bei ihrer Ankunft im Elite-Internat Blackwood Hall durch den Kopf. Ihr Gefühl wird nicht besser, als sie auf die Direktorin und ihre insgesamt vier Mitschülerinnen trifft - alle vier, wie auch Kit selbst, mit dem Stigma „schwer erziehbar“ versehen. Nichtsdestotrotz beginnt Kit ein ungeahntes Talent für das Klavierspiel zu entwickeln und auch ihre vier Kommilitoninnen entpuppen sich als hochbegabt. Aber Kits Alpträume wollen nicht verschwinden und nach und nach ahnt Kit, dass sich ein tödliches Geheimnis hinter den Mauern von Blackwood versteckt. (Concorde Home Entertainment)

I have a basic distrust of films that in the trailers boast about being from the same producers as the Twilight saga, but this was one alright, given the expectations. It’s an elegant gothic-horror film for older kids, well shot, with decent performances and an unusual premise. I’m actually sorry that the creators chose to take the way of mainstream harmless horror, because the premise could easily be the basis of a gem at the level of Suspiria. The wasted potential is a shame, but as a genre snack, I won’t throw shit on it.
