Mitten im Indischen Ozean stößt das Expeditionsteam des Erdöl-Unternehmers Fred Wilson auf eine bislang unentdeckte Insel, die ein unheimliches Geheimnis birgt: Auf dem Eiland haust Kong, ein gigantischer Gorilla, der von den Eingeborenen als göttliches Wesen gefürchtet wird. Um ihn friedlich zu stimmen, opfern die Wilden dem Riesenaffen die schöne Dwan, eine Schauspielerin, die durch Zufall zu der Expedition gestoßen war. Kong verschleppt die junge Frau in sein Versteck, wird aber von Wilsons Leuten überwältigt, um in New York als Show-Attraktion ausgestellt zu werden. Als sich die monströse Kreatur jedoch befreien kann, bricht Panik aus. (ARD)

I used to watch it over and over again when I was a kid, and the huge walking ape really terrified me with its horrible roar. Now I saw it again after a long time and what scared me was Jessica Lange with her horrible screaming. It's not a bad version, but for being more than 40 years newer than the original, it really lags behind it by quite a bit.

"King Kong" from 1976 is good, in the sense of being average. It is interesting in terms of acting, but gradually you realize that it is difficult to endure. The screenplay is often very weak and the film is unnecessarily stretched out, so the tension fades away. The finale is great, but it takes too long to get to it, and some scenes are completely unnecessary. The interesting charm that it had in my childhood is gone. Unfortunately, some films simply age.
