In their own version of the Mystery Machine a quartet of young sleuths travel the countryside debunking reports of supernatural activity and poltergeist plagued decrepit houses. But with their funding running dry the group – Nancy, Floyd, Gwen and Chad – accepts a case involving disappearances and rumoured murders at an abandoned former schoolhouse. Unperturbed by the warning signs they decide to camp overnight in order to expose the charade. Each character shares parallels to Velma, Shaggy, Daphne and Fred, with the latter two versions recovering from a recent infidelity, this is a grown-up, whacked out, hilarious alternative world to the cartoon crew if they'd smoked lots of pot in college and become long ago jaded by the pranks and lame mysteries they have had to solve. Only this time they're in for something far more disturbing. (Accent Film Entertainment)

For once I will be very uncritical and will give Saturday Morning Mystery four stars. Something between a proper horror four stars (it’s pretty atmospheric and bloody) and good guilty pleasure fun (objectively, it’s not extraordinary filmmaking). The horror version of ScoobyDoo has a silly story, silly characters, silly fun, but also the solid horror atmosphere of an abandoned haunted manor and an intense and bloody climax. The budget must have been about five dollars, and for that money it’s a surprisingly decent flick. Sympathy.

Vier Freunde, ein Hund und ein VW Minivan. Das ist wirklich wahr! SMM ist stark von der Kultserie Scooby Doo inspiriert, nur natürlich ist sie gruseliger. Es wird also hier gevögelt und grausam gemordet. Für viele von uns eine ziemlich verlockende Kombination. Umso trauriger ist die Tatsache, dass es in der Realität nicht funktioniert. Die erste Hälfte des Films erscheint überraschend bewusst, hat einen guten Sinn für Humor, gute Anfangstitel und an einigen Stellen eine anständige Atmosphäre. Die zweite Hälfte jedoch rutscht in einen brutalen Slasher ab, in dem es keine Mangel an zerstückelten Körpern der Hauptfiguren gibt und während des Abspanns Metal dröhnt. Diese beiden Teile prallen so stark aufeinander, dass es einfach stört. Schade.
