Teufelskreis Y

Another obscure old rarity that serves as proof that even in the 1960s horror and thrillers didn’t have to be as stupid and naive as most of them were. Twisted Nerve relies on excellent performances (the leading psychopath is quite a memorable character), an original premise and a fairly chilling and tense atmosphere. Imagine this: you take in your home a kind-hearted, slow-witted person who actually is a cold-blooded psychopath. The excellent music is a bonus (if you don’t read it here in another review, you’ll probably be very surprised with the famous melody you’ll hear in the film). In any case, the film deserves a lot more attention than it’s got so far (only 31 reviews!), so if you’re into old horror thrillers, don’t hesitate. (25.09.2014)

Ein beeindruckender psychologischer Thriller, der zwar wenig gruselig ist, aber dafür nervenaufreibend. Martin / Georgie schafft es, sowohl Mitleid als auch starke Gänsehaut auszulösen, die Nervosität und die starke Erwartung des Wendepunkts werden durch die ansprechende Kameraführung und vor allem durch die berühmte "Pfeifmelodie" unterstützt. Ansonsten ist die Besetzung und die Darbietung auch in den anderen Rollen großartig, vor allem die beiden wunderschönen Hauptdarstellerinnen als Mutter und Tochter (obwohl sie in Wirklichkeit nur vierzehn Jahre voneinander getrennt sind). Eine wirklich gruselige Vorstellung. Es ist unterhaltsam zu beobachten, mit welcher Eleganz der psychopathische Georgie in das Haus einer ahnungslosen Familie eindringt. Und es ist sehr spannend zu beobachten, wohin seine Bemühungen führen. Twisted Nerve ist ein bei uns fast unbekannter britischer Horrorfilm (mit der berüchtigten genialen Filmmusik von Bernard Herrmann), der definitiv mehr Aufmerksamkeit verdient! (05.06.2018)
