Nach einem spektakulären Einbruch wird Sherlocks Widersacher Moriarty vor Gericht gestellt. Aber trotz erdrückender Beweise sprechen die Geschworenen ihn frei. Holmes und Watson sind fassungslos. Kurz darauf entführt der Verbrecher zwei Kinder und lässt es so aussehen, als habe Sherlock die Tat selbst inszeniert, um hinterher als strahlender Retter dazustehen. Der Plan scheint aufzugehen, bald gilt Holmes als hochstapelnder Krimineller und muss selbst vor der Polizei flüchten. Aber damit ist der wahnsinnige Moriarty noch nicht zufrieden: Er will den legendären Ermittler in die Knie zwingen - und ihn am Ende tot sehen. (ARD)

Thrilling, what else can I say? What I enjoyed the most was the very dramatic and emotional ending, which managed to get on my nerves even though I am a fan of Conan Doyle and I already knew what would (and also wouldn’t) happen.

I have watched the final episode of the second series, and it has confirmed to me clearly that the "Baskerville" episode was an unfortunate digression, unnecessarily spoiling the first and third parts. Jim Moriarty really let loose this time, shuffled the cards, and the creators seized a great opportunity to inject the necessary pace and atmosphere into the story, adding humor and tension as well, and the result was clearly outstanding.
