To escape the burdens of rule, Sweden's Queen Christina rides into the countryside disguised as a boy. There she meets and secretly falls for a dashing Spanish envoy on his way to the royal court. Der große Triumph der Rückkehr der göttlichen Garbo, nachdem sie sich 1932 zur Ruhe setzen wollte. Der Dank geht nicht an die hohen Tiere von MGM, sondern an Salka Viertel. Der sympathische Konsens manifestierte sich schließlich auch gegenüber Gilbert, aber leider war es für ihn zu spät. Garbo & Gilbert Forever!

Greta Garbo is truly captivating in this film and I must say that she charmed me much more than someone like Marlene Dietrich. The camera really focuses on Greta, but it is by no means a forced obsession, but rather a fascination with her character and beauty, as well as her charisma. The story is not the best, but it is definitely something that still makes sense and captivates, even though it cannot be said to have any historical credibility.
