Zombieland: Doppelt hält besser

Mit dieser Gruppe (einschließlich der rosa Blondine!) würde es uns gut gehen, auch wenn sie nur so auf einer Bushaltestelle herumstehen und sich unterhalten würden. Die Drehbuchautoren von Zombieland: Doppelt hält besser haben sich ja auch nicht gerade angestrengt. Der Film ist ein Roadmovie mit drei Stopps, bei denen etwas nur deswegen passiert, damit es für eine Weile Unterhaltung gibt. Es dient nicht zur Fortsetzung einer durchdachten Handlung oder gottbewahre zur Bereicherung der Genre-Konventionen. Auch das einfallsreiche pazifistische Zerschmelzen der Waffen wurde durch die dumme Lösung des finalen Problems mit der Zombie-Armee kaputtgemacht. Als Häppchen ist es aber OK. (26.11.2019)

The four heroes are back, still killing man-eating monsters and still trying not to kill each other. But now one of the girls has disappeared and the rest must find her and possibly save her. And as they make their way across zombie-infested America, they encounter not only the undead, but also other survivors, Elvis and hippies. The sequel to Zombieland could be considered a carbon copy of the first one, as it doesn't bring much new stuff, but it's still just as fun and if you enjoyed the disposal of the undead and the antics of the survivors last time, the second one won't disappoint. The talented Ruben Fleischer serves up the Comedy of the Year, the Ride of the Year and the Zombie Movie of the Year! I have to admit I didn't have much faith in the film after the trailers, but from the opening minutes it was set to be a heartwarming affair and it was! It's been 10 years since the first Zombieland and the world and characters have changed, especially the zombies, who have evolved and now split into different species, which I found terribly fresh and novel. Of the cast, Woody Harrelson obviously rocks the most, stealing most of the scenes for himself, but the nerdy Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone are also awesome. The only bland one is Abigail Breslin, who both looks awful and is more of a by-the-numbers character, so the new characters are a much welcome. The sexy Rosario Dawson and the adorable Zoey Deutch, who plays the naive silly Barbie to perfection and made the whole cinema laugh out loud during every scene with her. (“You know why she's still alive? Because zombies eat brains and she ain't got none.”) Apart from the perfect humour, the action is also a good, nicely shot, brutal, original and entertaining, including the climactic finale. The highlights definitely include the annual awards for Zombie kill of the year. One of those films where you say "I want to see that again!" when it's over. A big surprise this year and it will be fighting for the top spot. P.S. The post-credits cameo scene is perfect. 90%. (20.10.2019)

Whereas some lenient reviews assert that the second Zombieland offers essentially the same thing as the first one, that is not entirely true. While watching the film, you repeatedly say to yourself that specific scenes and shots are a variation of something from the first film, whether that is slow-motion splatter shots or the characters pushing each other around. But that is merely just mechanical fan service and thus basically the exact opposite of the very essence of the first Zombieland, which became a sensation in its time because it came up with a fresh approach to zombie flicks and managed to transform them into clever entertainment by means of a detached view and genre reflection. The second film, on the other hand, is shocking in its failure to offer anything fresh or original. It is as if the returning filmmakers had suffered a severe case of dementia over the preceding decade and are thus merely repeating what they did last time. Furthermore, whereas the first film had a certain degree of causality and, above all, it managed to build a functional and coherent world, here everything falls to pieces. The result is an unwanted travesty in which the characters find themselves outside of their world, while the new reality lacks any cohesion (which is most apparent in the absolutely dysfunctional and interchangeable environment of the climax). Everything could almost be saved by claiming that this time the filmmakers came up with a brilliant meta concept which, following the example of typically insipid direct-to-video sequels, offers a deliberately cheaper and more shoddily made variation of the original hit, but nothing in the film indicates such a degree of detachmentand conceptuality. Der Film verlässt nicht den sicheren Weg. Die Figuren sind älter, sonst sollten Sie keine große Veränderung erwarten. Auf eine gewisse Art und Weise ist es eine sympathische Einstellung. Sie wäre aber noch sympathischer, wenn ich den vorigen Film nicht für eine ziemlich unterhaltsame, aber gleichzeitig auch kontroverse Sache halten würde, der ich einfach nicht verfallen bin. Zombieland: Doppelt hält besser ist wahrscheinlich nur in der Hinsicht besser, dass sich um den Humor diesmal hauptsächlich Woody Harrelson, der einfach ausgezeichnet ist, und Zoey Deutch kümmern, die mit ihrer niedlichen Kreation von einem nicht gerade scharfsinnigen Mädchen alle in die Tasche steckt. Die Kollisionen der anderen Figuren mit ihrem "Denken“ haben mir (zusammen mit dem Abspann) am meisten gefallen. Nicht das zerquetschen der Untoten mit den Mähdreschern und das langwierige und langweilige Finale, nicht die abgedroschene romantische Geschichte mit der vorhersagbaren Pointe und bestimmt nicht der ganze Teil mit Luke Wilson, der für mehrere völlig leere Minuten und eine schreckliche Langeweile sorgte. The same thing as the first one, really. An entertaining premise and a couple of good formal ideas elaborated into the rumble of the four (five) likeable characters that doesn’t result in anything original. The great cast carry the film on their shoulders again, Flescher adds a few functional ideas, plus a couple of cameos to make things more interesting, and the viewer can kick-back and relax. And even though neither the characters nor the world go anywhere in the end, it’s impossible not to acknowledge that this innocent zombie silliness works surprisingly well – and like the previous, it deserves a strong 3*. Ein inhaltlich absolut schlechter Film, dessen schematische, schwache und schlampig zusammengesetzte Geschichte über die Reise der Charaktere von Punkt A nach Punkt B lediglich als notwendiges Bindeglied für eine Reihe von komödiantischen Sketchen und Actionszenen mit schwankender Qualität dient. Verständlicherweise ist es im Vergleich zum ersten Zombieland alles viel einfacher, geradliniger, vorhersehbarer und einfach in jeder Hinsicht etwas schlechter. Die Hauptfiguren sind zudem nach zehn Jahren zu nervigen eindimensionalen Karikaturen verkommen, deren Unerträglichkeit der Film durchaus erkennt, aber anstatt etwas dagegen zu unternehmen, nutzt er sie als Quelle für Humor (und baut um sie herum bewusst nervige und übertrieben verrückte Nebencharaktere in Form von personalisierten Stereotypen auf, um die Hauptfiguren sympathischer erscheinen zu lassen). Teilweise wird dies durch eine recht unterhaltsame komödiantische Ebene und gelegentlich auch durch Schauspieler gerettet, die offensichtlich Spaß am Dreh hatten und dies wird sichtbar. Nur jeder dritte bis vierte Witz ist gelungen, aber bei der enormen Gag-Dichte stört das kaum. (23.10.2019)

(SPOILER ALERT!) Zombieland: Doppelt hält besser bietet ein sehr anständiges Intro, man kann sich ein Lachen nicht verkneifen, wenn man das Logo des Films sieht, und dann geht es langsam aber sicher auf das knallharte Finale zu, das mit einer unglaublich humorvollen Hommage an den "namenlosen Ghostbuster" endet. Der zweite Film hat zwar einige schwächere Stellen, an denen zu viel geredet, gepredigt, geschrien oder gespuckt wird, aber all das wird durch eine große Anzahl von Action- und Klimaszenen wettgemacht. Der Preis für die lustigste Figur geht an die niedlich-dumme "Blondine aus der Gefriertruhe", außerdem hat mich die Sequenz mit den "Doppelgängern" sehr amüsiert. Am Ende sind es schwächere vier Sterne, aber ich kann nicht sagen, dass ich mich im Kino gelangweilt habe, und das ist das Wichtigste bei einer Komödie. (29.10.2019)

A complete sandbox of random episodes and situations spliced together with running jokes and quirky characters. It's horribly shot (the camera for the most part never goes beyond the foreground), poorly edited, and with incredibly lazy and cheap CGI (even the dead bodies by the roads are digitally added), but the whole thing is pulled off by the foursome of Harrelson, Stone, Breslin and Deutch (!!!) who are just a joy to watch as they shamelessly cow in front of the camera. Thankfully, the film doesn't irritate with confused episodicity, as it never once attempts any coherence throughout. It's very likely that with a different cast it would have been intolerable. Interestingly, the "geek" character of Jesse Eisenberg is the one who has least survived the decade-long outage, who with his neurotic pop culture references, is fit only to be thrown over the walls to be torn apart and eaten by the plebes from among Big Bang Theory fans. To my own surprise, the sequel after six years was even more fun than the first installment. The plot seemed more coherent, I also liked the calmer part in the White House and I was pleased that the authors cast Zoey Deutch and Rosario Dawson. Oddly enough, I didn't even mind that it was a blatant rip-off of the 2013 film, some scenes almost a carbon copy of the original idea. (05.03.2020)
