Das Provinz-Ehepaar Phil (Steve Carell) und Claire Foster (Tina Fey) beschließt, ihr wöchentliches Date im angesagtesten Restaurant Manhattans zu verbringen. Da die Beiden keinen Tisch vorbestellt haben, geben sie sich als das Ehepaar Tripplehorn aus, das reserviert hatte, aber nicht erscheint. Eine kleine Lüge mit großen Folgen, denn plötzlich werden Phil und Claire von fiesen Mafiakillern und korrupten Cops quer durch New York gejagt. Mit Tricks, die sie sonst nur aus dem Fernsehen kennen, versuchen sie ihre Date Night ohne größere Blessuren zu überstehen und erleben die heißeste Nacht ihres Lebens. (Fox Deutschland)

An incredibly likeable and undemanding comedy. Sometimes you need to switch off and let yourself be entertained and that’s what Date Night is for. Needless to say, the film relies on Lemon’s brilliant comedic performance. 7/10

Bad actors, a stupid plot, and overall not a very funny comedy. I'm glad I'm over it!! Lately I’m wondering if I’m just biased against Mr. Steve Carell, but I don't feel any charisma from him.

Date Night is ultimately just an average comedy with undemanding humor, but it still has some advantages that give me positive feelings. A solid cast with professional acting performances, humor that never descends into the depths, and above all, its content appeals more to middle-aged viewers like myself. On one hand, it's an action comedy and there are plenty of those, but the other aspect that makes fun of marriage fatigue, the rushed pace of life, rituals, and stereotypes of middle-class couples in their forties is something I perfectly understand, and I find the film likable for the same reason teenagers find teen comedies likable, despite their problematic content. Overall impression: 55%.

Zweieinhalb Sterne. Steve Carell und Tina Fey sind zwar gute Komiker, aber auch sie brauchen ein gutes Drehbuch. Dieser gegenwärtige Trend "sie sollen doch ruhig die ganze Zeit improvisieren, sie werden sich bestimmt etwas Witziges einfallen lassen, wenn es uns nicht gelungen ist“ gefällt mir nicht besonders. Date Night - Gangster für eine Nacht hat außerdem der Spezialist für misslungene Komödien Shawn Levy gedreht. Es war bestimmt seine Idee, mehr als die Hälfte des Films mit einer wilden und (unnötig) verwackelten Digitalkamera aufzunehmen. Trotzdem findet man in dem Film einige witzige Momente – z. B. das ständige Stoßen gegen offene Schubladen, Carells Anspielungen auf Mark Wahlberg ohne Hemd oder die wirklich originelle Verfolgungsjagd (die originellste im ganzen Film).

The one thing that truly stood out and didn't disappoint was the casting. However, the story felt naively silly, and I found myself unable to laugh at most of the supposed funny moments. The moments when the two main characters analyzed their relationship even left me bored. Thankfully, Taste and Whippit saved the day, and the absence of the Holbrook Grant t-shirt played a big part in my rating (that part was genuinely enjoyable). I can see how this film could be an entertaining comedy, but it definitely needs more work on the script. / Lesson learned: Want to have a peaceful and relaxed life? Use contraception.

Steve Carell and Tina Fey entertained me immensely here, and as a couple, they were a great match. The film also has other positives. First and foremost is the fact that there are great actors in both major and minor roles. It doesn't lack excellent humor and great scenes, especially those involving the married couple, which are well-executed and hit close to home.
