Dracula Untold

Für Vampire habe ich eine Schwäche seit Kindertagen, also schaue ich sie mir in jedweder Form gern an, und selbst der abgedroschenste und bekannteste Plot kann in den verschiedensten Formen bis ins Unendliche erzählt werden. Ein angenehmes Häppchen für Freitagnacht - oder einen faulen Samstagvormittag. Luke Evans und Sarah Gadon passen zueinander, aber das Pärchen Gary Oldman und Winona Ryder ist wahrscheinlich nicht zu übertreffen... (06.05.2017)

Ein unterhaltsamer Unsinn, welchen der gut besetzte und spielende sowie charismatische Luke Evans rettet. Das zweitklassige Drehbuch mit einfachen Beweggründen der Figuren und Sprüchen erreicht die Verträglichkeitsgrenze. Aber es hat Schwung, es ist verspielt, die Emotionen funktionieren und die digitale Verarbeitung kann man als ausreichend bezeichnen. (20.10.2014)

Ob das neue Dark Universe nun funktioniert oder nicht, diese Initiative hat einen weiteren unterhaltsamen Dracula geschaffen. Das ist an sich schon sehr schön. Diesmal in einer Version für das 21. Jahrhundert mit dem Zusatz Untold. Ganz ehrlich: Egal, nach welchem Stoff Luke Evans greift, es ist mehr oder weniger sicher, dass ein Teil des (weiblichen) Publikums allein durch die Tatsache befriedigt wird, dass Evans nie von der Leinwand verschwindet. Und wenn sein Held ein romantischer (Anti-)Held ist, dann ist alles andere nur das Tüpfelchen auf dem i. Und so funktioniert der neue Dracula fast perfekt. Wer etwas anderes will, kann aus den zahllosen Verfilmungen, die im Laufe des 20. Jahrhunderts entstanden sind, jede andere Version wählen. Ich war zufrieden. (18.11.2019)

He might stumble a bit amidst the Turkish intrigues, but the closer he gets to the finish line, the more stubbornly I have to cheer for the prince of darkness in his fight against everyone. Luke Evans can bare his fangs and thanks to his charisma combined with excellent (albeit modestly served) action, Dracula Untold can appear several classes more magnificent than its reasonable budget or minimal runtime would suggest. Universal's ambitions to build a connected universe were somewhat naive from the beginning, but I will always know who would have stolen the show. (22.10.2014)

I’d been pretty much looking forward to Dracula. I’d mainly been looking forward to another movie that would feature an appearance by Luke Evans. This guy owns everything that happens in the Middle Ages. It’s simply as if he somehow found himself in this period and couldn’t leave, or rather didn’t want to leave because any time I see him in something, it’s clear to me it’s HIS role. The same thing goes for Vlad the Impaler, whom Bram Stoker borrowed for the Dracula story. But this one is completely different from what you would expect. You see it tells the story of how Vlad became a vampire and I must say that in the realm of fantasy, this is the ultimate feat. I’m surprised that they entrusted this movie to the debuting director Gary Shore, but on the other hand, I must say that he did make a couple of good shots. For instance, Vlad’s first fight; that was a true digital masterpiece. But there were some scenes that made me clench my fists. For instance, the ending, which seemed as if somebody simply decided the movie would end this way and that they didn’t care whether the story would get to it or not. Maybe the movie could have gotten there using the stupidest path… and it did! And there were more moments like this, and it was exactly these moments that pretty much ruined the fantasy world. Despite that, I give a pretty good rating because I really like movies like this and I will be happy to watch it again. (29.10.2014)
