Asterix bei den Olympischen Spielen

By Caesar! Throw Fréderic Forestier to the lions!!. What a sad rape of a brilliant comic book. Only a few funny fragments were taken out of it, the rest was filled with humour on the level of the lamest TV shows. The previous film adaptation wasn't great either, but at least it compensated by sticking to its source; this one was all over the place! René Goscinny must be turning in his grave. (06.02.2009)

This is seriously gross. I grew up reading Asterix books, but this movie has nothing to do with the original, just the title, vaguely the plot and a couple of jokes that fell flat in this movie anyhow. Neither Depardieu nor Delon have any role to play and the new casting of Asterix himself is the peak of desperation. So why did I give it one star? Well, I was pleased to see Schumacher’s cameo. Asterix bei den Olympischen Spielen adaptiert den gleichnamigen Comic-Klassiker von 1968 zwar nur sehr locker, ist aber dennoch sehenswert. Bei Animationsfilmen wurde dieses Thema noch nicht aufgegriffen, und so ist dieses Sujet für die Asterix-Filme im Allgemeinen neu. Der Ersatz für Christian Clavier ist vielleicht nicht der Beste, aber immerhin haben wir Delon, Schumacher oder Vanessa Hessler, so dass es an Referenzen an die Popkultur nicht mangelt. Das Problem kann nur entstehen, wenn Ihnen der Humor von Benoît Poelvoorde nichts sagt. Da kann man dann nichts machen, denn sein Brutus zieht die ganze Aufmerksamkeit auf sich. (24.08.2019)

I don’t know what it was, but I did have a good time. It's goofy and, unlike the first two episodes, it's dedicated exclusively to younger viewers, but the film moves at a relatively fast pace, the filmmakers spare no ideas and the likable actors do their best. I also like to see parodies of sports in every comedy, and that's included here from top to bottom and in the silliest of ways. The humour is not as good as in previous episodes and there are a few embarrassing moments, but the treacherous Brutus (excellently dubbed by Josef Carda) trying to assassinate Caesar, Michael Schumacher as a horse-drawn carriage racer and the fastest man in the Roman Empire were worth it and together with other hilarious jokes kept the quality at an acceptable level. Oder wie die Franzosen den Asterix, ihren nationalen Schatz, mit Müll verlängerten. Diese Brühe hat mit dem Originalcomic nur die Handlung und einige Charaktere gemeinsam. Einige Gags sind zwar ziemlich lustig, aber Delonovos "Ave Já" ist nicht einmal beim ersten Mal lustig. Der erste Teil ist gut, der zweite schlechter, aber dafür witziger. Der dritte Teil ist peinlich und traurig. (03.03.2011)

This is very weak. The replacement of Asterix's representative didn't do much harm, as the attempt to further stomp on the popular culture note is already completely out of revenge, like a lightsaber... The music aspect is tragic compared to the second movie, not to mention that the story itself is quite boring and Brutus is the highest nuisance. The cameo of athletes didn't stand out much.
