'Wednesday' ist eine rätselhafte, von übernatürlichen Elementen durchdrungene Detektivgeschichte, die sich während Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) Jahren als Schülerin an der 'Nevermore Academy' abspielt. Während Wednesday versucht, ihre aufkommenden übersinnlichen Fähigkeiten zu meistern, muss sie nicht nur eine ungeheure Mordserie stoppen, die die Stadt in Angst und Schrecken versetzt, sondern auch dem übernatürlichen Geheimnis auf den Grund gehen, in das ihre Eltern vor 25 Jahren verwickelt waren. Ganz nebenbei bemüht sie sich, ihre neu geknüpften - und überaus verworrenen - Beziehungen in 'Nevermore' in den Griff zu bekommen... (Warner Bros. DE)

The influence of Tim Burton is evident; at first glance, the slightly morbid and quirky artistic aspect of the project influenced by the Gothic style stands out. A major plus is the casting of the interesting and charismatic Jenna Ortega, who seems to have been born for the role of Wednesday; she perfectly fits the role of an eccentric, captivating outsider and enjoys her role, rightfully dominating the series, and giving it a "spark." The project is limited by a screenplay that clearly indicates from the beginning that the target audience is teenagers. While in the first half there was more appeal for other age groups and I enjoyed the episodes more, the second half emphasizes its commercial nature for "teens," and the descending impression isn't saved even by the finale. Nevertheless, considering Ortega's constant presence on set, I have no problem justifying giving it a fourth star. Overall impression: 75%.

As I have already said in my reviews, Wednesday, as portrayed by Christina Ricci in the 90s, remains unbeaten for me. I will admit, however, that Jenna Ortega was fantastic and very capable. The problem with the first season primarily lay with the screenwriters because the story failed to draw me in. It turned out that it was nothing more than the usual high school romance and some ripped-off ideas hidden under an appealing façade. The screenwriters even reached a point where I no longer cared about the protagonist, even though Wednesday has always been my favorite member of the Addams family. As far as I'm concerned, it was a wasted opportunity, and I think it's a shame. / Lesson learned: Even a great actor can run into trouble when they have nothing to play.
