Die Madrigals sind eine ungewöhnliche Familie, die tief versteckt in den Bergen Kolumbiens an einem wundersamen, verzauberten Ort namens „Encanto“ leben. Die Magie des „Encanto“ hat jedes Kind der Familie mit einer einzigartigen Gabe gesegnet, von Superkräften bis hin zur Kraft des Heilens – jedes Kind hat eine besondere Fähigkeit. Jedes Kind außer Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz). Doch als sie herausfindet, dass ihr geliebtes Encanto in Gefahr ist, wird Mirabel bewusst, dass sie allein die letzte Hoffnung für ihre außergewöhnliche Familie und ihr wunderbares Zuhause sein könnte... The Madrigals have been living for generations in a magical house in the middle of the jungle. Each of them has superhuman abilities thanks to magic, except for Mirabel. But it is she, a completely ordinary girl, who will have to save the family because the magic is weakening. Disney delivers a beautifully looking fairytale with a nice Latin atmosphere and a likeable heroine, but the story, which at certain moments unexpectedly turns dark, undermines it. And I'm not entirely sure if the main problem and its solution are suitable topics for the youngest viewers, though maybe I'm just underestimating them.

An enjoyable Disney fairy tale that will neither disappoint nor offend. The good animation is par for the course, and the theme of an enchanted place called Encanto where every child in the family has a unique gift is fine, it's just a shame that no one uses their abilities properly. I missed a bit more menace, and at the same time the humour is surprisingly absent altogether. Surprisingly, the best part of the film is the music. Personally, I prefer the more action-packed stuff in the vein of Raya and the Last Dragon and The Mitchells vs. the Machines, this one seemed more for the girls and of course the little ones. 6/10.

A splendidly merry cartoon, full of songs, which slowly turns into a gloomy family drama about unreal expectations and fear of failure. The fairytale place, the building (with special powers) and the family are the both lure and the catalyst of the main conflict. The unexpectedly adult (for a Disney movie) way the topics are introduced doesn’t discourage kids from watching; in fact it seems quite the opposite. The choreography for some of the songs is just fantastic!

Der 60. abendfüllende Disney-Film. Ein Erlebnis, das dem Besuch der kolumbianischen Botschaft entspricht. Diesmal entstand kein vollwertiger Disney-Film, sondern gleich eine Plattform für all die gleichzeitigen Outputs. Ein reichhaltiger Soundtrack, Attraktionen im Disneyland, Bücher, Datenträger, Puppen... Aber alles ist so sehr in dieser spezifischen Kultur versunken, dass die globale Verständlichkeit vergessen wurde.

Encanto mischt eine märchenhafte Disney-Atmosphäre mit aktuellen Themen und einem Blick auf (nicht nur) die Filmwelt, wobei die Macher auf die Korrektheit und den Multi-Kulti-Charakter ihrer Produkte abzielen, was vielleicht nicht jedermanns Geschmack ist. Nachdem ich den neuesten Disney-Film gesehen hatte, hatte ich bezüglich der abschließenden Bewertung etwas gemischte Gefühle. Einerseits hätte Encanto lustiger, verspielter und tiefgründiger sein können (Alles steht Kopf und das kulturell nahe Coco – Lebendiger als das Leben haben die Latte zu hoch gelegt), aber andererseits kann man dem Film eine aufrichtige (wenn auch leicht moralisierende und elementare) Geschichte über die Bedeutung von Familie und die Entscheidung über das eigene Schicksal nicht absprechen, und in diesem Fall haben sich die Filmemacher besonders auf die weiblichen Figuren konzentriert. Aus audiovisueller Sicht war es eine Augenweide - sei es die farbenfrohe Animation oder der angenehme Soundtrack mit schönen Tanznummern. Die Musik kam im Original jedenfalls besser zur Geltung. Dreieinviertel Sterne!
