Snatch - Schweine und Diamanten

Ein sehr guter Film. Sehr witzig, manchmal auch spannend, mit gelungenen Monologen und Dialogen… Schade, dass es in ihm so viele Figuren gibt… Obwohl jeder, der in Ritchies Film auftaucht, eine Rolle hat, die so geschrieben wurde, dass man sich die entsprechende Figur leicht merken sollte, ist es gar nicht einfach. In der letzten halben Stunde muss man sich wirklich sehr konzentrieren. Man muss sich daran erinnern, wie es eigentlich am Anfang war, wer wen angerufen hat, wer wem welchen Auftrag gegeben hat… Ein Glück, dass ich Lust habe, mir Snatch - Schweine und Diamanten noch einmal anzuschauen. Ich hoffe, dass ich beim zweiten Mal alles verstehen werde. (25.01.2012)

Eine sehr elegant gedrehte schwarze Komödie, die mit ihrer düsteren Poesie einige Momente von Quentin Tarantino heraufbeschwört, aber dank eines sehr markanten Designs und Schnitts ihre eigene Note beibehält. Obwohl die Handlung eher trivial ist, gelingt es Guy Ritchie, sie mit verschiedenen Tricks aufzubrechen (der wichtigste davon ist der wechselnde Erzähler und der Schnitt), so dass der Film den Zuschauer bis zum letzten richtigen Haken, der aus einer wirklich überraschenden Richtung kommt, bei der Stange hält. In einigen Passagen leidet Snatch - Schweine und Diamanten unter typischer Tarantino’scher Unbeholfenheit und Selbstüberschätzung (nennen wir es zum Beispiel coole Gewalt), aber an anderer Stelle glänzt er mit exzellenten Charakterisierungen (Brad Pitt ist wieder extrem gut!), anständigen Gags oder großartig unterstrichenen Situationen. Darüber hinaus ist die stilvolle und perfekt passende Musik hervorzuheben, die die Atmosphäre kanalisieren kann - ein großartiges Beispiel ist der Song "MASSIVE ATTACK“, der einem ein Lächeln auf die Lippen zaubert. Kurzum, Guy Ritchie beherrscht das Genre viel besser als die meisten anderen Anhänger der Gangsta-Poesie und hat einen Film gedreht, den man sich gerne ansieht. (29.03.2005)

After the unexpected, but well-deserved success of the film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Guy Ritchie received a hefty sum from the producers and was able to hire a few internationally proven stars alongside his own discoveries for his next rough gangster comedy, thus raising the overall production value. At the same time, due to the larger budget, the director paid more attention to the script, making the plot more understandable and enjoyable for the audience, despite its numerous twists, characters, and motifs. Once again, fans were treated to an incredible collection of quotes, vulgarities, criminal characters, bizarre situations, and plot twists - exactly what makes Ritchie's masterpiece so enticing. The lines uttered by the (anti)heroes are unbelievable both in terms of slang and content. Brad Pitt receives one of the most beautiful beatings in film history with a somewhat unexpected ending... Positive characters in the traditional sense are naturally absent here, but those who enjoy dark humor, outrageous characters, and a fast pace will definitely be satisfied. Overall impression: 90%. It was a mistake to put this thing in the player, Guy Ritchie simply isn't my cup of tea, and Snatch is another supposedly cool tough-guy movie that simply didn’t interest me; even the dark humor didn't sit well with me. The plot is okay (although there are a lot of characters and they often get mixed up), Brad Pitt is decent in the role of a Gypsy with an unforgettable accent, but the rest are just the same old recycled stories. The disgustingly British accent really annoyed me, but of course, the film can't be blamed for that. A genuinely solid cast that unfortunately is completely off in terms of genre, filmmaking, and stylistic choices for me. (05.06.2007)

The most entertaining gangster flick ever – whether due to Ritchie's unapologetic style or the subversive story that is more of a backdrop for the incredible cast of brilliantly written and acted characters to have their fill. The direction is simply superb, with an entertaining staging that embellishes scenes that must be outrageously funny even on paper, and a ball-busting editing that gracefully brings together a large cast of characters who gradually converge towards a common goal. Add to that a brilliant soundtrack and the aforementioned actors, among whom stand out the gypsy Pitt and the iconic Rade Šerbedžija, who is harder to kill than Chuck Norris. This film has paid for Ritchie’s immortality, at least the editing of not few modern movies would look pretty different without his example. (01.10.2018)
