Poirot verbringt Weihnachten bei dem Ägyptologen Lacey und seiner Familie, allerdings in dienstlichem Auftrag. Denn unter den Feiernden wird der Drahtzieher eines dreisten Diebstahls vermutet: Dem ägyptischen Thronfolger Farouq ist von einer schönen Frau ein wertvoller Rubin gestohlen worden, dessen Verlust große Instabilität in seinem Land zur Folge haben könnte. Poirot kann sich mit den englischen Weihnachtstraditionen schnell anfreunden - nicht zuletzt, da das vermisste Juwel im traditionellen Plumpudding auftaucht. This comedic plot is truly well-done in this case, especially the meetings between Poirot and the prince are excellent, as these are two perfectly different characters. The plot with the ruby is also not bad at all, and the various Christmas props are quite innovatively utilized. Additionally, throughout the whole time, you don't know what is happening, who is dead, and who isn't. In this aspect, the episode is successful.
