Poirot wird von Lucy Lemarchant beauftragt, den Mord an ihrem Vater aufzuklären. Ihre Mutter, Caroline Crale, wurde verurteilt, diese Tat begangen zu haben, und anschließend gehängt. Allerdings liegen diese Ereignisse vierzehn Jahre zurück, und Poirot begibt sich auf eine Spurensuche im Gedächtnis der Beteiligten. Alle sind sich einig, dass Lucys Mutter ihren Mann vergiftet hat, weil er sie wegen einer jüngeren Frau verlassen wollte. Poirot rekonstruiert die Ereignisse und kommt zu einer anderen, höchst erstaunlichen Lösung. (one - ARD)

Excellent piece, which also has an interesting narrative form, to which the visual aspect of the film is overall adapted, both in the case of flashbacks and in the case of the present. It is beautifully intricate, and until the end, you will not know who the real murderer is and why. Brilliantly filmed. It doesn't matter at all that there is not a hint of humor here. It is not needed.
