(SquareOne Entertainment)

Englisch Excellent. One of those great films about important things. The real story of Bert Trautmann could have made a whole series, but if there was to be only one film, it definitely succeeded. Its message is clear, the performances authentic. Sport in the first half of the 20th century helped to overcome all imaginable problems and adversity, and thus helped football and a former member of the Hitler Youth to a new life. A whole series of similar stories usually relates to the 1936 Olympic Games, a lot of space has always been devoted to boxing and track and field, this is another piece of the mosaic. Gretel Bergmann, Marie Ketteler, here Zdena Koubková, Max Schmeling, Joe Louis, Hertzko Haft... these are all important stories. ()

Englisch It's like something Spielberg would've made in the late '80s, or more recently. I mean, in some aspects it is not quite up to scratch, in some places Keeper looks a little too fuzzy and romantic, but it has heart to spare, so all in all mission accomplished, the Germans have made something 8 out of 10 A-list Hollywood directors wouldn’t be ashamed of. All the potential upsides that could have been capitalized on are capitalized on. We have some new faces, it feels fresh and authentic, with surprisingly lavish visuals – some of the football scenes, in particular, are brilliantly executed. The romance is sometimes over the limit, but it is compensated by a good script and emotional catharses that come in good doses and make sense. The best film from Germany in I don’t know how long. And Noel Gallagher's title track is fantastic. ()

Englisch Although it wasn’t exactly a profound film and it didn’t really confront any of the issues, I'm rating it four stars, because it was very watchable. I was even starting to wonder if I wasn’t becoming a romantic in the twilight of my life. But I soon realized my concerns were unnecessary. I’m not. ()

Englisch Although a bit far-fetched in some respects, the German filmmakers managed to make a truly beautiful biopic that charts the private life and professional career of German-born British footballer Bert Trautmann. I didn't know anything about him, so I owe the film for its compelling portrayal of his fate. The typecasting greatly helped the authenticity of the story, and the well-chosen music made the emotions flow. (85%) ()
