Ein spektakulärer Doppelmord hält San Francisco in Atem. Die Zeitungserbin Page Forrester und ihr Dienstmädchen wurden in einer Strandvilla von einem Maskierten auf bestialische Weise umgebracht. Die Tatwaffe: Ein Jagdmesser mit gezackter Schneide. Der Verdacht fällt auf Jack Forrester, den Mann der Toten und jetzigen Alleinerben des Verlagsimperiums. Bis zum Prozessbeginn wird er auf Kaution freigelassen. Die Anwältin Teddy Barnes übernimmt Jacks Verteidigung. Bis hierhin ein normaler Fall, aber dann verliebt sich die geschiedene Teddy in ihren charmanten Mandanten. Nach einem aufsehenerregenden Prozess wird Jack freigesprochen. Überglücklich fährt Teddy in Jacks Landhaus. Doch dort erwartet sie eine furchtbare Überraschung. (Columbia TriStar Film)

From the beginning, I was thinking that the American eighties gave us a number of interesting films. I secretly hoped that this film could also have the proper old atmosphere that is literally gushing from the American movies of the time. And it did. The actors are absolutely amazing, although Glenn Close is still about two levels above the rest of them. While at times it is a weaker legal drama, towards the ending it turns into an absolutely amazing thriller that simply deserves the fourth star.
