Jak se zbavit nevěsty

Tomáš Svoboda hat es bisher geschafft, sich als Regisseur von überflüssigen tschechischen Filmen zu etablieren, aber dank seiner Zusammenarbeit mit Marcel Bystroň ist er noch tiefer gesunken. Und das ist fast schon eine Kunst. Einen Haufen guter Schauspieler, Sänger und geschickter Techniker zu haben und trotzdem alles wie einen totalen Irrtum aussehen zu lassen. Es fehlt ein grundlegender Schnitt, eine gewisse Kontrolle des Drehbuchs... Was hier leider ebenso fehlt, ist die Bescheidenheit des Theatermachers, der glaubt, dass ein Film im Grunde dasselbe ist. Das ist aber nicht der Fall. Dann schon lieber Magnusek, ein Amateur, der am Anfang nichts kann, er ist nur demütig, aber mit jeder neuen Produktion lernt er etwas dazu. Und der Fortschritt ist zu erkennen. Svoboda dagegen hat sein Handwerk in einem anderen Bereich gelernt, doch bei Filmen schludert er. (01.08.2021)

At first, I thought I might like the film, but then came a turning point in which Eva and Honza nostalgically remembered the old days. Such dialogue, in which the characters describe to each other in detail how everything happened, always feel like a radio play in a film to me. When the writer is incompetent, what else is there for him to do, right? From then on, the story entered a downward spiral, only to take a vertical dive in the end. The acting performances didn’t impress me much, the script was poor, and the cake fight destroyed all that was left of my will to give a higher rating. I haven’t seen such amateurism in quite a while. (31.12.2019)

Classic Czech romantic nonsense, where some actors try, which is to their credit, but they still can't squeeze anything great out of the story. Matásek and Vlasáková make a great pair, but the finale is quite bizarre, including the grotesque cake scene, which I found rather unnecessary. A below-average romance and comedy. (31.07.2017)

Another unfunny Czech comedy that looks like it was ripped off from an overseas production. The only difference is that in American films, the snobbish environment seems more believable. The botched screenplay with primitive dialogues couldn't be saved even by a decent cast, and I'll probably be recovering from that attempt at humor in the form of a slowed-down cake fight for a long time.
