Für Wendy ist die Welt kein leichtes Pflaster. Die brillante junge Frau mit ihrem Hang zur Heiterkeit könnte ein unbeschwertes Leben führen – wäre da nicht ihr Autismus. Für Wendy sind Menschen ein schwer zu entschlüsselndes Rätsel, dabei will auch sie nur ihren Platz in der Welt einnehmen. Eines Tages erfährt sie von einem Drehbuch-Wettbewerb in Hollywood. Ihr Ausbruch aus dem Heim katapultiert sie auf die Reise ihres Lebens, an deren Ende sie ihre 500-seitige Star-Trek- Geschichte für den Wettbewerb einreichen möchte. (Universum Film)

I was annoyed by how Toni Collette and Alice Eve’s acting skills were put to waste. With this pair of actresses, the creators could have easily taken it to a whole other level. This way, the whole story was solely based on Dakota Fanning’s excellent performance, without any other storylines, which I think was a shame. Since the protagonist of the film was socially impaired, I wiggled my ears out of joy and added an extra star, as the theme is close to my heart.

Dakota Fanning very realistically portrays an autistic girl, but the storyline doesn’t differ from every typical road movie. Three stars are enough for this kind of a film.
