Prinz Karel weigert sich zu akzeptieren, dass es sein älterer Bruder Jan ist, der Gesetz und Tradition entsprechend, der Thronnachfolger ist. Er stiehlt einen Zaubertrank aus der Verbotenen Kammer, der Prinz Jan , welcher ihn trinkt, seine Erinnerung verlieren und im Verwunschenen Wald verschwinden lässt, aus welchem es kein Zurück gibt. Es scheint, als ob nichts mehr zwischen Karel und dem Thron steht, aber, wie so oft, nehmen die Dinge einen anderen Lauf. (KiKA)

A fairytale-style Borne Identity or How Dumb and Dumber found happiness. A metaphor on how information is evil and only dumb-asses can find happiness. Patrik Děrgel’s empty expression works for the entire movie (apart from the first moments when he hadn’t yet lost his memory) and Abrhám’s Gandalf was a sure bet. The twist at the end and adding the missing piece to the jigsaw was effective. Excellent for a modern fairytale. I don’t know.

Ein zwar wieder durchschnittliches, aber diesmal wenigstens erträgliches Weihnachtsmärchen. Das hat der Film vor allem seiner Besetzung zu verdanken (Eva Josefíková ist eine sehr, sehr schöne Prinzessin, Patrik Děrgel ist sympathisch und Kryštof Hádek hat ein solides komödiantisches Talent) – nicht der "reichen“ Ausstattung, welcher der billige TV-Charakter schadet, und auch nicht der Regie von Karel Janák, der wieder einmal vergeblich versucht hat, einen großen Film vorzuspielen.

The story was easy to follow, the acting performances were quite decent, the dragon wasn’t one of the worst and, thankfully, there was no singing. I decided to give it four stars because it was simply hilarious. I absolutely didn't expect there to be so much quality humor. I was chuckling from the very beginning, but the tournament topped it all off (cheerleaders, bracket chart). I was satisfied.

A very nice fairy tale with a pleasantly escalating plot and funny moments. It definitely made my Christmas evening more enjoyable. I was slightly surprised by the more modern approach to the tournament, but it didn't spoil anything. The acting performances were also excellent and the roles were very well distributed. The ending could have been slightly better, at least regarding the evil wizard, but it doesn't matter. I give it a well-deserved 4 stars.
