Vater werden ist nicht schwer, Vater sein dagegen sehr – Das würde Brad (Will Ferrell) sofort unterschreiben. Er bemüht sich nach Kräften, ein guter Stiefvater für die zwei Kinder seiner neuen Frau Sarah (Linda Cardellini) zu sein. Doch die Kids mögen ihn nicht wirklich und lassen ihn bei jeder Gelegenheit auflaufen. Trotzdem gibt der tollpatschige Radiomitarbeiter, nicht gerade die hellste Leuchte im Kosmos, nicht auf. Bis ein Anruf seine heile Welt völlig auf den Kopf stellt: Dusty (Mark Wahlberg), der leibliche Vater der Kinder, kündigt seinen Besuch an. Brads Entschlossenheit, sich nicht vom verantwortungslosen Erzeuger verdrängen zu lassen, ist dahin, als er ihn das erste Mal trifft: Dusty ist ein Freigeist – supercool, reich und wild entschlossen, seine Familie zurückzugewinnen. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg go to extremes in this comedy; they took an ordinary life situation and created a comedy that explicitly called for it. What is nice, however, is that they were able to leave out the gross stuff and based the jokes on the individual sketches. In some parts, the jokes seemed really great, and even though the entire movie isn’t like that, those few scenes definitely make it worth it to watchthis piece and relax a bit.

Will Ferrell is actually playing Clark Griswold, and the film is at its best in those moments when he's manfully swaggering and we know that a terrible catastrophe is on the horizon, we just have no idea what exactly. In this respect, Daddy’s Home will not only make you laugh, but also surprise you. It's just a pity that at the end we get those hackneyed clichés about family values, however much the writers try not to take them seriously.

Nach einer längeren Serie misslungener Filme und Durchfaller hat mich diese überraschenderweise sehr gute amerikanische Komödie, die weder peinlich noch klischeebeladen ist bzw. besser gesagt dies auf ein Minimum reduziert, erfrischt. Ferrell und Wahlberg sind die richtige Wahl für die zwei männlichen Hauptrollen, es sind Rollen, die perfekt zu ihnen passen und ihnen entsprechen, bei Wahlberg würde ich mir sogar erlauben zu behaupten, dass ich seinen Dusty zu seinen gelungensten Rollen rechnen würde. Ein tolles Vergnügen, ich freue mich auf Teil zwei.

A weak three stars. Some moments had me laughing out loud (the U ramp, the basketball, or the motorbike), but the film also had way too many dull moments, which were unfunny or downright cringey. The supporting characters, Griff and Leo, were great, I would even venture to say that it was thanks to them that the film got over a few weaker moments.

Both actors in the main roles are fine, I like them, but their characters are unbelievably boring, it hurts. Honestly, John Cena would fit me much better in Wahlberg's role, who appears at the end. The jokes are unimaginative - maybe except for the scene with the motorcycle and electric current - the development is incredibly straightforward and the film definitely does not belong to great comedies. Rather the opposite.
