In Los Angeles liefert sich die Polizei eine rasante Verfolgungsjagd mit einem Eiswagen, die für viel Aufsehen sorgt. Etliche Jugendliche säumen die Straßen und filmen mit Videokameras und Handys das Geschehen, um durch spektakuläre Aufnahmen vielleicht den nächsten viralen Video-Hit einzufangen. Absolut unaufhaltsames Durcheinander ohne Ordnung und Konzept, aber mit einer beispiellosen Courage, so etwas in den Vertrieb zu bringen. Es ist nicht anders zu erklären, als dass die Schöpfer uns lächerlich gemacht haben. Dieses Scheißdreck hat für Fans der ersten Teile überhaupt nichts zu bieten, höchstens ein gewisses Korn, Rauschen, schnelle Schnitte und Bildausfälle. Da steht Viral wirklich drauf, jawohl. Ansonsten ist die einzige Geschichte, die es zumindest erwähnenswert macht, "Parallel Monsters", aber was nützt das schon, wenn die gesamte Anthologie von einem absurden Mist um einen Eiswagen eingerahmt wird! Ich scheiß darauf, ich werde mich nicht ärgern. Schade um Worte und Energie.

Until the last moment I didn’t believe it was as bad as Filmbooster was saying (32%), but it is, it really is. I can’t understand how they allowed this decent anthology series to be run so much to the ground – though the list of directors, a much lower class than in the previous one, should have been a warning. But the saddest thing perhaps is that they stopped giving a fuck and abandoned even the original concept of a found VHS, replacing it with some utter nonsense about a mysterious ice-cream truck (really, I don’t get the what and how about it), while the stories themselves are no longer the classic found-footage format – the first one is in part some sort of documentary with captions and in part something shot with a normal camera. The only story worthy of attention is Parallel Monsters, by the the Spaniard Nacho Gigalondo. It would be average if we put it against the stories from last year and the year before, but in Viral is way better than the rest, and the rest is so bad that I don’t want to write any more about it.

Neither a short story attempting to capture something great, nor a short story from the skatepark will grab you and the film would work even without them, maybe even better. However, I don't think it's such a disaster, just overall these films simply don't stand out. There is no masterpiece here that would amaze you, everything is rather average or even below average. And it is in this spirit that the film "V/H/S: Viral" as a whole is, it simply doesn't captivate you.
