In einem privaten Brüsseler Bankhaus, deren Eigentümer zu den mächtigsten Herrschern des Landes gehören, werden mehrere Tresore ausgeraubt. Man beschließt, die Untat der Öffentlichkeit gegenüber totzuschweigen. Sogar die Justiz sieht es in ihrem Interesse, keine Ermittlungen anzustellen, denn die Bevölkerung soll das Vertrauen in die Banken nicht verlieren. Inspektor Paul Gerardi (gespielt von Filip Peeters) von der Brüsseler Polizei wird aus diesem Grund bei seinen Recherchen behindert, was ihn aber nicht daran hindert, weiter stur am Ball zu bleiben. Schließlich deckt Gerardi eine komplexe Verschwörung auf und wird bald sowohl von Kriminellen als auch von den Behörden verfolgt, bis er schließlich die Wahrheit über die finstere Organisation Salamander offenlegen kann. If the twelve episodes were cut into the shape of a miniseries with much fewer episodes, this would be an extraordinary and good and solid crime movie from the tough “lone wolf of a policeman versus corrupt political system" category. It has the potential for it. It’s just a shame that it’s more of an inkling of potential instead of anything tangible and applied in practice, because like this it’s like you’ve seen it a hundred times, but even though quite a solid and thrilling genre movie, which is unfortunately spoiled by one (here more and there less) annoying cliché after the other and a fluctuating tempo.

Season 1 was average/slightly above average. The second season didn't make it that high. While the story around Jonkhere bank was still intriguing, the Belgian-African adventure was often boring, the protagonist seemed more and more insipid, and the logic faded over time, and with it the whole story. All in all, I wasn’t impressed by the series, and I consider it to be a waste of time.
