Atmospheric horror set in the highlands of Scotland. After the death of his mother, schoolteacher James Findlay (Euan Douglas) moves into his inherited childhood home. Ignoring his mother's last reminder not to return to the mansion, James begins to be haunted by terrifying memories of his childhood at Baldurrock Estate, manifesting themselves in the form of the menacing Owlman (David Schofield). With the help of neighbour Eve (Lexy Hulme), James tries to uncover the memories of his past that are responsible for his present terrors. But with the nightmares and visions of the Owlman increasing, will he succeed in unearthing the truth about his relentless tormentor? (88 Films)

The creators came up with a potentially cult horror character, made it widely known with prank videos that reached people who under normal circumnstances would have never heard about this low-budget, almost amateur thing… and they made it with an almost psychopathic artistry that may captivate some people with some scenes, but that will satisfy hardly anyone as a whole. The film has nice locations, nicely scary scenes with Owlman and an original style, but also a lot of filler and things that are stretched unbearably long, not to mention that very often the performances (and the camera and the editing) are too amateurish for something that is 100 minutes long. As a result, Lord of Tears is interesting rather than good. But I won’t slag the creators, they do have potential.

Ich hatte nicht erwartet, dass es so schwach sein würde. Zuerst musste ich mich an den seltsamen Fernsehlook gewöhnen, dann an die merkwürdig fragmentierte Erzählform, die mir persönlich nicht besonders gefällt. Aber im Laufe der Minuten verbesserte es sich. Das letzte Drittel gefiel mir am besten: eine bizarre, halluzinogene Fahrt, die endlich auch etwas Spannung und ein nette Überraschung bietet. "Herr der Tränen" würde ich jedoch eher psychisch ruhigeren Zuschauern empfehlen, die es nicht eilig haben. Sie werden zumindest die Nerven für die Vielzahl unglaublich langgezogenen Szenen (langsamer Tanz, Geist am Bett, Geist im Keller) haben. Ich hatte sie dieses Mal nicht.
