Drachenzähmen leicht gemacht 3: Die geheime Welt

A worthy ending to a trilogy that suggests it could easily have gone on for a while. There is too much going on in How to Train Your Dragon 3, and they don't have enough time to devote to all of it properly, and splitting it into two films would certainly have come in handy. At the same time, it's still a proper animated adventure with great action, fine characters, excellent music and a few scenes that leave you breathless. (26.02.2019)

Each episode is four and five years apart, leaving absolutely no chance to remember any characters or previous events, so I got a little lost. The animation is solid, but there’s not enough humor for my taste and I wasn't too entertained by the action. For me the whole trilogy is overrated. 60%. (11.04.2019)

There were dragons when I was a boy. The best animated series is bidding farewell, and this long-awaited finale of the story of inseparable friends has exceeded all possible expectations. Maybe it's because I have seen the previous installments multiple times, maybe it's because I became attached to the main characters over eight seasons of the series, or maybe it's because such a crowd-pleasing and dragon-loving message is hard to beat. I had chills down my spine from the first scene and a racing heartbeat during the last half hour, accompanied by more than one anticipated tear and a feeling that the film world has been enriched with a true legend. Im Hinblick darauf, dass die vorigen zwei Filme keine Angst vor ziemlich harten und unerwarteten Dingen hatten, habe ich ein beeindruckenderes Ende der Trilogie erwartet. Vor allem konnte man mehr aus dem Schuft herausholen, der mich fast nicht interessiert hat und durchschnittlich war. Es stimmt, dass die Stimmung manchmal so düster wurde, dass ich mich gefragt habe, ob es überhaupt ein Zeichentrickfilm für Kinder ist. Unmittelbar danach kam aber der klassische verrückte Humor – als Wiedergutmachung für die Kinder. Ich hatte gemischte Gefühle. Die technische Seite von Drachenzähmen leicht gemacht 3: Die geheime Welt ist aber ausgezeichnet (z. B. John Powell hat jetzt eine der besten Soundtrack-Trilogien überhaupt). Die Romanze von Ohnezahn ist sehr niedlich und es ist auch gelungen, Hicks’ Geschichte abzuschließen. Nur leider nicht irgendwie unvergesslich, was schade ist. PS: Vielleicht gefällt mir die ursprüngliche Fassung besser. Die Synchronisierung war zwar nicht schlecht, dennoch werde ich lieber Cate Blanchett und Kristen Wiig in der Rolle von Raffnuss (eindeutig die beste Figur des Films) hören. (01.03.2019)

It confirms the series’s descending trend, but it’s paying mostly for the fact that its two predecessors are awesome (though the second one a bit less than the first). Otherwise, it’s a fantastic farewell party that might be missing some of the humour, but it still looks gorgeous and nicely develops the concept of natural solidarity, sense of belonging and friendship, all with the rumble of John Powell’s amazing soundtrack. And Berk is still great. 75% (30.03.2020)

Nach fünf Jahren haben wir das dritte Drachenabenteuer des unzertrennlichen Duos Hicks und Ohnezahn erlebt, das es diesmal nicht leicht hatte und dessen Beziehung auf mehrere Proben gestellt wurde. Wenn ich die Trilogie mit den vorangegangenen Teilen vergleiche, gibt es einen sichtbaren Qualitätsabfall, aber es ist immer noch eine frische Fortsetzung und ein würdiger Abschluss der Trilogie, dem es weder an Action noch an Humor mangelt (siehe das gegenseitige Fummeln der beiden Nachtschrecks und Rafan im Gefängnis), und der mit atemberaubenden animierten Kulissen aufwartet. Einerseits war der Hauptbösewicht charismatisch, andererseits konnte ich mich des Eindrucks nicht erwehren, dass die Macher mehr aus seiner Figur hätten herausholen können. Die dritte Reise auf die Insel Berk, die nicht den Charme der ersten beiden Episoden hat und sich mehr auf Beziehungsthemen konzentriert, aber immer noch fesselt und unterhaltsam ist. (21.02.2019)

After two great installments, this film was a huge flop for me, and I had been looking forward to it so much... Both previous dragon films offered great animation, a well-written story and a lot of great humor. The only thing left of it here is the animation. The new story is wishy-washy, parasitizing on what had already worked twice, humor had to clear the field for the constant lecturing and melodrama, and, for the first time, I was bored with the dragon training. A romantic upgrade similar to that of the third Ice Age; unfortunately, one that is a lot less funny. This culmination of the entire How to Train Your Dragon trilogy is only slightly better than average in the animation field. What’s more, the third one limps far behind the previous installments. The kids will no doubt be enthused, though, because there's still the cutest dragon ever and the likably svelte Ruffnut as a symbol of defiance and rebellion against pretty much everything. Still, I thought at the beginning that perhaps the creators would be a bit more courageous and add a bit more fatality in the final installment, or perhaps subject the main characters to some really crucial life test or decision. After all, the first one dates back to 2010 and I kind of expected this series would want to grow with the viewer. Unfortunately, from that perspective, this is a rather tepid ending to an otherwise bombastic series. I still have the first installment in my top ten cartoons, and I still really enjoy the second one, but in my opinion the series could probably do without a third in this form. (05.03.2019)
