ACHTUNG, VERSTECKTER SPOILER! Also, was soll ich jetzt mit dir machen, lieber Joko? Entweder ich bedanke mich bei dir für die ersten 40 Minuten, in denen du die Spannung wie eine Bombe hochgetrieben hast (und die wirklich da war ...), oder ich überflute dich mit vulgären Ausdrücken per E-Mail für die zweiten 40 Minuten, in denen du deine gewaltsam eingefügte Pointe präsentierst, die wirklich nicht zum vorherigen Psycho-Survival passt. Dieser Klon von Mama, der auf Houbíčky abfährt, und Papa, der den unterhaltsameren Spielen den Vorzug gibt, ist jedoch trotzdem recht verdaulich. Der größte Anteil daran liegt an der dichten Atmosphäre im ersten Akt, der einfallsreichen Kamera und der stärkeren Gewalt im zweiten Akt. Es gäbe also viele Anmerkungen, aber diesmal werde ich mich wirklich nicht damit befassen. (70%) (28.03.2013)

First act: atmospheric one-man show worthy of five stars, a perfect slow-burn. Second act: a forest chase with wooden actors in secondary roles; the enthusiasm has waned, but it’s still good – three stars. Third act: there is a twist that I saw coming about halfway in and that doesn’t make sense within the second half; or rather, the film can justify it for its own needs, but I refuse to accept it :-D. Rather than a smart horror thriller with a clever twist, Ritual is an artificial house of cards with a twist that is surprising only thanks to quite unlikely and pointless fabulation. It’s very tricky to rate it with stars as a whole – thumbs up of the beginning, thumbs down for the ending. (28.02.2013)
