April 1988, Philippe Legorjus (Mathieu Kassovitz), Verhandlungsspezialist und Chef einer Anti-Terror-Einheit, wird in den Pazifik abkommandiert. Rebellen haben im französischen Überseegebiet Neukaledonien einen Stützpunkt der Polizei überfallen und 30 Geiseln genommen. Neben Legorjus' Truppe werden auch 300 Soldaten entsandt. Während das Militär auf ein schnelles Eingreifen drängt, gewinnt Legorjus allmählich das Vertrauen des Anführers der Rebellen. Doch in Frankreich stehen bald Präsidentschaftswahlen an, und weder François Mitterrand noch Jacques Chirac wollen vor ihrem Volk als Schwächlinge dastehen ... (Capelight Pictures)

If I hadn't recently seen Hotel Mumbai, I would have rated this higher. This way, the plot seemed a bit boring at times. I understand that when the main character is a negotiator, there will probably be a lot of talking. However, with a running time this long, the film could really use some action. Otherwise, I was very satisfied, I can’t wait for some ex-slaver, ex-colonizer or ex-Nazi country (fill in the names of the countries yourself – they can fall into more than one category) to teach us about human rights and how we should treat our ethnic minorities.
