Der einstige Boxer Sean Thornton (John Wayne) kehrt nach einem traumatischen Erlebnis im Ring in sein irisches Heimatdorf zurück. Er will künftig in seinem Elternhaus leben und kauft es von der Witwe Tillane zurück. Damit zieht er sich den Unmut seines ruppigen Nachbarn Red Will Danaher zu, der sich Hoffnungen auf die Witwe macht und den Besitz ebenfalls gern erworben hätte. Zu allem Überfluss ist er auch noch der Bruder von Mary Kate Danaher, in die sich Sean verliebt. Dem Brauch folgend, hält er bei ihrem Bruder um ihre Hand an. Dass Sean nicht um die Auszahlung der Mitgift kämpfen will, macht Mary Kate wütend. Das aber lässt sich Sean nicht gefallen ... (filmjuwelen/fernsehjuwelen)

The problem is, however, that it is an old movie and its visual aspect is not that great. The year 1952 is long gone and technicolor coloring may not appeal to everyone. It visually reminds me of the movie "The Wizard of Oz." But if you don't mind this quality - personally, I like it because it has its charm - you can enjoy the movie even more. It may not be something that will impress everyone, especially the younger audience, but maybe if they give the movie a chance, they will realize that comedy can be clever and entertaining, and it doesn't matter that it is more than 60 years old.
