Elissa zieht nach der Scheidung der Eltern mit ihrer Mutter in ein gemütliches Haus, das sie sich sogar leisten können. Doch der niedrige Preis hat einen Haken: Im Nachbarhaus hat sich Jahre zuvor Schreckliches zugetragen, als ein Mädchen ihre Eltern ermordete und anschließend spurlos verschwand. Ihr Bruder Ryan wohnt noch immer dort. Als Elissa eine Beziehung mit ihm eingeht, hat das verhängnisvolle Folgen. (ProSieben)

Gleich von Anfang an sieht man, dass es sich um nichts Originelles handelt. Wenigstens freut man sich über die Besetzung und die schöne Schilderung der Beziehungen. Die Horrorelemente funktionieren aber überhaupt nicht. Ein bisschen Thriller-Spannung kommt erst in der Abschlussszene. Das rettet aber die fehlende Originalität, den hier und da schlechten Schnitt und die insgesamt schlechte Regie nicht. Ganz zu schweigen von unsinnigen Stellen im Drehbuch.

I’ll be nice and will give it three stars, though not “I recommend it” three stars, but rather “I survived” three stars. It’s such an unremarkably average thriller, but as a snack, why not. It’s not too stupid, it’s well made and, compared to other characters in teenage thrillers and horror, Lawrence is fine. After the trailer everyone laughed at how predictable it would be, but, to some extent, this time it wasn’t true. Yeah, sure, this kind of thriller can have only one kind of twist, but the viewer won’t guess very easily the “who, why and how much”. A conciliatory 50 percent.

Der Titel, der sofort an mehrere andere Titel erinnert, ist genauso lang wie der Film selbst und genauso uninteressant wie die Hauptprotagonistin. Dieser Ausgestoßene hat jede Spannung (vielleicht mit Ausnahme der ersten 10 Minuten), keine deutlichere Gewalt (war überhaupt etwas da?) oder irgendeine Idee oder Überraschungsmoment. Sagen Sie mir nicht, dass Sie noch nicht wussten, worum es geht. Ein sehr schwacher Thriller, von dem selbst Zuschauer, die zur Schule gehen, nicht begeistert sein können. Finger weg.

Jennifer Lawrence is without a doubt the great asset of the whole film. She's basically a dopey girl who may not be particularly attractive to most of the male cast, but to me she represents the more "normal" part of the girl population and is a human and natural actress in the truest sense of the word. If the main character had been some busty blonde with too much makeup, I wouldn't even have bothered with this one. As far as the story is concerned, it's obviously not a very original affair, but on the other hand I certainly can't say that I was clear about everything from the beginning and that nothing surprised me. A technically average affair with an above-average script. Jennifer is of course great... :-)
