Weitere Horrorfilme, in denen Mörder "unschuldige" Kinder sind. Aber das ist nur auf den ersten Blick so, unter ihrer Schale verbergen sich herzlose Arschlöcher, die ihr wahres Gesicht durch idiotische und falsche Lächeln verbergen. Eine Trio von verdammten Bastarden hält vor nichts Halt, sie morden ziemlich oft und es ist ihnen scheißegal, ob sie ihre Lehrerin oder ihre eigene Familie umbringen. Es wird nicht viel Blut geben, aber der Film wird gut voranschreiten und man wird auch auf obligatorische Nacktheit stoßen. Das Ende hat jedoch nicht den Mut, sich auf die Kinderhorde zu erstrecken. Und Michael Dudikoff spielt hier eine schreckliche Randfigur: er erscheint für 4 Sekunden und kann nicht einmal sprechen. Aber hauptsache, er sieht gut aus... (15.07.2011)

Die visuelle Seite sieht wie Spielbergs kleine US-amerikanische Stadt in den 80ern aus, die Musik wurde hier und da geklaut – von Psycho bis hin zu Der weiße Hai. Aber was den Stoff angeht, da ist Angst etwas ganz anderes. Drei Kinder ermorden Erwachsene. Nicht aus übernatürlichen Gründen (Das Dorf der Verdammten), sondern deshalb, weil es ihnen Spaß macht und sie böse sind. Niemand kommt auf die Idee, dass für die Morde niedliche Kinder verantwortlich sein könnten. Deshalb ist in der Handlung kein Raum für die Ermittlung und die Bälge können machen, was sie wollen. Ein bizarrer Film. Man hat bei ihm das Gefühl, dass er zwei Stunden dauert. Die ganze zweite Hälfte befasst er sich mit den gleichen Figuren, was langweilig wird. Die Leistungen der drei Kinder-Bösewichter wirken an manchen Stellen komisch. Der Großteil der Länge spielt sich im Hellen ab, die Schreckmomente funktionieren nicht. Es handelt sich um keinen richtigen Horrorfilm, es ist mehr eine Kuriosität für Fans von guilty pleasure im Rahmen dieses Genres. (26.03.2015)

Bloody Birthday has a great advantage in that the children played their roles really well. Their killing methods are also very inventive. This makes watching the individual scenes even more unpleasant. There are some flaws when it comes to the handling of the individual killing scenes, but the overall atmosphere of the film makes up for it, as does its denouement. (08.02.2018)

It’s a shame about the routine C-movie rendering and amateurish performances of the actors portraying the adult characters, because the concept of this horror film about murderous children, and especially the splendidly disturbing and repulsive performances of the child actors, could have been the basis of an excellent horror movie. In places, Bloody Birthday has the chilling and disturbing attributes of the Spanish film Who Can Kill a Child?, but the overall impression that it gives is that its creators tried too hard to please the mainstream audience or subordinated the film to the norms of trash filmmaking at the time. Besides the boorish and counterproductive sequences with nudity, this is unfortunately manifested in the need to add some rationalisation to the scenes, thus eliminating any unease through some sort of overwrought genre element that goes beyond the real world. Unfortunately, the ridiculously absurd astrological nonsense that frames all of the action fundamentally diminishes the film’s effectiveness. (19.04.2014)
