John Skillpa lebt ein Doppelleben: für seine Nachbarn in der beschaulichen Provinzstadt Peacock ist er ein ruhiger Zeitgenosse und zuverlässiger Mitarbeiter in der Bank des Örtchens. Doch zu hause trägt John gerne Frauensachen und verwandelt sich dann in Emma, seine imaginäre Ehefrau, die ihm jeden Morgen das Frühstück bereitet und sich um den Haushalt kümmert. Als eines Tages ein Zug in Johns Garten crasht, entdecken die zur Hilfe eilenden Nachbarn Emma zum ersten Mal und halten sie tatsächlich für Johns Ehefrau. Johns Leben gerät dadurch völlig aus den Fugen. Er versucht mit allen Mitteln, zu vertuschen wer oder was Emma ist, während diese zeitgleich immer mehr die Kontrolle über ihn und sein Leben übernimmt. (KinoweltTV)

With such a nice premise and such a great cast, Lander could have tried to make something more ambitious. Cillian Murphy is very convincing as a madman, it’s a pity that the script forces him to do something uninteresting. Peacock is a small dose of depression and paranoia that can be rated negatively only with regards to the high expectations.

I was honestly "enticed" by the trailer and the cast, so expectations were high. It's a fact that Peacock has a pretty decent (albeit rather unpleasant) atmosphere in places – especially when portraying the psyche of the main character/"heroine". The acting is indeed very appealing, the subject matter is quite original, the script is on a decent level, the directing is good, but I just didn't get what I was expecting, plus the potential that Peacock has (had) remained untapped many times over... A little more mystery to give the film a mystery thriller flavor would have worked much better in my opinion... As it is, it's "just" a decent intimate psychological drama. 70%
