Nach seinem epischen Kampf mit Kira in Death Note wartet auf den jugendlichen Meisterdetektiv "L" eine neue Aufgabe. Eine Gruppe Terroristen um die Umweltaktivistin Dr. Kujo plant einen globalen Anschlag mit einem Killervirus. Die Schülerin Maki trägt diesen künstlich geschaffenen Virus schon in sich und wendet sich an "L", damit er die drohende Katastrophe abwenden kann. This is the third installment of the film series "Death Note" which continues the events of the previous film. It is not a part that is based on the original manga, but rather an original story that deals with what happened to L when he had only a few days left to live. Surprisingly, the direction of the film doesn't significantly help it, despite being directed by Hideo Nakata ("Ringu" or "Don't Look Up"). It is evident that he is capable of creating interesting scenes, visually the films are as well-executed as the previous two, but as a whole it feels different. The story takes a direction that doesn't quite fit with "Death Note," so even though it is the third film, it feels like it takes place in a different world.
