Es ist ein unkonventioneller Weihnachtsfilm für ein ausgewähltes Publikum. Ein klassisches Horrorschema à la Texas Chain Saw, das aber als satirischer Komödie-Ausrutscher mit niedrigem Budget gestaltet ist. Von der Beunruhigung und dem Ekel ist nicht so viel da wie in ähnlichen Horrorfilmen; den Film kann man nicht sehr ernst nehmen. Die Redneck-Retardation ist aber ansprechend und Vincent Cassel tobt sich bei seiner exzentrischen, sympathischen Figur auf eine grandiose Weise aus. (17.02.2015)

I quite like this kind of films (and I mostly don’t care that they aren’t original), but this one just didn’t work. The yokels are great, but there’s something wrong when the most likeable character in a film is a psychopathic madman. Really, it’s hard to imagine a worse choice for the heroes, and before Vincent Cassel showed up, I was seriously considering turning the film off. On top of that, it’s quite boring for most of the time and the final carnage is not even that interesting. Besides the characters, what drove me mad was the music score, it’s the kind of stuff that makes me run away when I hear it under normal circumstances. Definitely a disappointment and one of the worst redneck movies I’ve ever seen. (22.07.2008)
