In einer heißen Sommernacht streift Ned Racine durch die Bars und Straßen Floridas. So begegnet er Matty Walker, einer kühlen Blondine, die sich ihrer Anziehungskraft sehr bewusst ist. Verheiratet mit dem wohlhabenden Grundstücksmakler Edmund Walker, versucht Matty, den charmanten Ned zunächst auf Distanz zu halten. Doch die beiden können ihren Gefühlen nicht widerstehen. Während der Dienstreisen ihres Mannes verbringen Ned und Matty die Nächte auf dem Anwesen der Walkers. Immer tiefer verstrickt sich Ned in diese Affäre. Als Matty, die unter der Ehe mit Edmund leidet, von Mord spricht, ist Ned schnell von dieser Lösung überzeugt: Der Ehemann wird von einem vermeintlichen Einbrecher erschossen, und die Witwe bietet der Polizei eine glaubwürdige Vorstellung. Doch bei der Testamentseröffnung kommen Ned Zweifel: Es taucht ein gefälschtes Testament auf, das Matty zur Alleinerbin ihres Mannes erklärt. Nicht nur, dass Verwandte Edmunds die Todesumstände nun genauer prüfen lassen wollen, auch die Polizei interessiert sich zunehmend für die reiche Erbin. Bald merkt Ned, dass er niemandem trauen kann. A very ingeniously constructed thriller. Kathleen Turner is every bit the equal of Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct. She plays a bitch so cunning and heartless it's chilling. The film's conclusion is indeed "optimistic". As life itself :)

A quality crime thriller in the style of the neo-noir genre, which relies mainly on a sophisticated script and the attractive face of femme fatale Kathleen Turner. It has perhaps one major flaw, and that is its pace, which at times resembles a snail on a stroll. Nevertheless, Kathleen truly looks like a textbook vamp in her film debut and thus foreshadows the huge wave of popularity she gained in the United States and around the world in the 80s. It is precisely for her and for the final scene of the film, which deviates from the usual Hollywood happy endings, that I give it 4 stars. Overall impression: 70%.

Somehow, this film didn't grab me as it should have. I love noir films, but with this one, I simply had a feeling that it was more of an erotic thriller, which is probably one of the reasons that bothered me a bit. However, overall it is a good movie with a well-developed screenplay, where you will believe the overall plot development, which is still surprising.
