Zwei maskierte Banditen überfallen den Angestellten eines Telegrafenbüros und zwingen diesen, einen Zug an der Station anzuhalten. Der Angestellte wird gefesselt und vier Banditen steigen unbemerkt in den Wagen. Diese versuchen, die Tür zum Postwagen aufzubrechen. Doch der Schaffner bekommt Wind davon, er sperrt den Tresor mit den Wertsachen ab und schmeißt den Schlüssel aus dem fahrenden Zug. Daraufhin erschießen die Banditen den Schaffner und öffnen das Schloss mithilfe einer Ladung Dynamit. Zwei Gangster bahnen sich den Weg zum Lokführer und Heizer. Dabei kommt es zu einer Auseinandersetzung mit dem Heizer, der aus dem rasenden Zug geschubst wird. Der Lokführer wird ebenfalls überwältigt und gezwungen, den Zug anzuhalten und den Passagierwagen abzukoppeln. Alle Insassen werden gnadenlos der Reihe nach ausgeraubt. Unterdessen wird der gefesselte Telegrafenangestellte befreit. Der Sherif bricht mit seinen Leuten auf, um die Räuber zu fassen. Es kommt zu einer Verfolgungsjagd mit etlichen Schusswechseln und einem dramatischen Showdown. (BR Fernsehen)

Why they keep on making movies about the Great Train Robbery I don’t know. It’s just regurgitating the same old story with slight variations over and over. Porter rammed absolutely, and I mean absolutely everything that the viewer might wish to see into these very few minutes of footage. If you could only watch one movie in your life, this is the one to watch. Of course, by far it isn’t the best, but it is the pure essence of cinema as such. And I say that without my tongue in my cheek and without any irony.

Everything I love about westerns, crime, action and adventure films was already there 110 years ago. And it was very good. I was surprised by the rough scene on the locomotive, where I didn't notice the editing trick at first, and I was actually surprised by how rough the whole thing was.

We will take a little further look into history at a film that is already 110 years old. That is a beautiful age. I wish I could reach such an age. Almost sacred music immediately introduces you to the action. Nothing was spared here. A group of men attack a railway employee to have an open space when robbing the train. It arrives shortly and departs with black passengers. They immediately get down to business. The theatrical acting is amazing, and it is connected to believable action. Although it may seem like one of those videos where a long film is told in a few minutes, here you have action, tension, drama, everything combined in a way that truly works. The beginnings of the film are magnificent.
