Presence of Mind is a Spanish-American production that is a fairly successful adaptation, meaning because it is a movie that truly feels like a gothic novel. It is dramatic, yet the horror dominates, in an unpleasant way and through individual characters. Unfortunately, I cannot offer a better comparison. I have not read James' work yet, though his short stories have been sitting around for a while.
