Bei einer Expedition im Jahr 1886 kommen Lord und Lady Clayton an der Küste Afrikas ums Leben. Ihr wenige Monate alter Sohn wird von Menschenaffen aufgezogen und als "Tarzan" zum Anführer der Affenfamilie. Als Tarzan dem belgischen Forscher Philippe D'Arnot das Leben rettet, lehrt ihn dieser mühsam zu sprechen. Schließlich überredet D'Arnot den Dschungelhelden, den Sprung in die Zivilisation zu wagen. Doch dort schlagen ihm nur Snobismus und Kälte entgegen. (Sat.1 Gold)
