Zombies at Christmas (2011)

Englisch Yeah, I’m aware that this movie would objectively deserve the Boo! rating. But I’m unable to be objective so I’m giving it two stars. One for the actor playing the protagonist, who was great, and the second for the protagonist’s opinions – he kept getting mad at people who told him that zombies were zombies while he kept defending the term living dead. If you view this movie as something made by a group of enthusiasts, you won’t find it as terrible. I even had a few laughs. And that’s the point.

Crazy Stupid Love (2011)

Englisch A pleasant film that changes absolutely beautifully over time. I was quite impressed by how many interesting and big names they managed to rope into this movie. Maybe they wanted to shoot it for fun, because I doubt that they could get that much money out of such relationship-centric romantic movie. Anyway, the most amazing thing in the movie was Ryan Gosling. He was changing right before my eyes. First he was a flute player who scored with every girl he looked at, and then he was a boy who fell head over heels in love. And I believed him all that one hundred percent. Without him, the film would’ve definitely been only a half of what it is. But not only without him; Steve Carell is great as well. I just don’t understand why he’s being referred to as a comedian. He hasn’t grabbed my attention as a comedian yet, but he did convince me that he is a good actor. The film itself is about relationships with those we love and also about the fact that sometimes these relationships go into a slightly different direction than we would actually like. It was definitely a nice movie, but watching it once was enough for me.

Café de Flore (2011)

Englisch This might be the first time when music from Sigur Rós failed to put me in the right mood in the film. Café de Flore is an interesting film, but the Canadians made it so carelessly that I couldn’t get closer to the individual characters. For example, DJ was supposed to milk the audience’s emotions with his relationship, but he left me completely unmoved. Even though the musical background was great. The movie had its highlights, but I missed a more distinctive punchline that would allow me to say in the end that this is a really cool movie.

Le comiche (1990)

Englisch This is actually not a movie but rather a series of sketches, most of them perfect.

Green Lantern (2011)

Englisch This comic book madness is guaranteed to be appreciated by the fans the original comic book. The film doesn’t pull its punches, and during its uncompromising 109 minutes it presents a story that goes against all usual comic book adaptation characteristics. It’s just science fiction about superheroes from outer space fighting for Mother Earth outside of Earth. I have to say that it had its charm, but it was off to a rather slow start. Ryan Reynolds was great, but he could hasten the transformation and not wait for it until the middle of the film. Anyhow, I can’t say that I wasn’t captivated, as this was something else than you’d expect and that also counts for something.

Wenn Träume fliegen lernen (2004)

Englisch After a long time, my rating differs from the vast majority. Unfortunately, I have to say in case of this film. The character portrayed by Johnny Depp is one big child who has an imagination so thick that you could cut it with a knife, and he could give a piece of it to every child in the world who is lacking in this respect, which is nice. But I wish it were told a little differently than in such a boring way. When the great Johnny was not in his imagination with “his” children, I was very bored and I couldn’t wait for the movie to end. It’s all the more pity because I really liked the character of James Barrie. After all, imagination is the most amazing thing our mind has, not only in our childhood but also in adulthood. We just have to let it run free, as James Barrie managed to do.

Kong Curling (2011)

Englisch An absolutely uncompromising Norwegian comedy, where everyone overacts with all they’ve got to create one absolutely perfect scene after another, which must send everyone into fits of laughter. Amazing, I’ll probably rewatch this for few more times… I didn’t know that curling was so popular in Norway.

Eine Weihnachtsgeschichte (2009)

Englisch I watched A Christmas Carol once in the summer and the second time at Christmas. Already back then I said that the spirit of Christmas could work wonders for the film, and after watching the film during Christmas time, I have to apologize to all the Christmas films that I didn’t see at Christmas, because I must have been unfair to them. Just like it happened with this movie. It is not ordinary, quite the opposite. It’s scary, perhaps even scarier for children than the last Harry Potter, but as a result it dishes out a big lesson that each of us should remember at least during the Christmas holidays, when the spirit of Christmas is most intense.

Buddy - Der Weihnachtself (2003)

Englisch Will Ferrell and his specific humor does not suit everyone. But if you tune in to his wave at Christmas, you’ll get a reward for it, because this movie is rather entertaining.

The Ides of March - Tage des Verrats (2011)

Englisch I watched The Ides of March twice. I watched it for the second time mainly because I wanted to find out whether this movie was really boring or I just didn’t pay enough attention to it during the first watching. And I must say that even though the story is really interesting, I’m not in the mood to watch something that reminds me of the Czech government, where betrayal and revenge are part of the daily agenda of just about every political party. The actors were indisputably great. Ryan Gosling was amazing, even. That, however, doesn’t change the fact that this politics crap is not my cup of tea.
