DonT Stop (2012)

Englisch A decent Czech musical film, which I think is a pity that it was promoted so little even in the place where the film was made. It’s not bad at all. The style reminds me a bit of another Czech film Identity Card, but it revolves about a different sort of people. These people, however, shared a common meeting place – the pub. DonT Stop is full of interesting, fresh-faced actors, it has a good, even though in its heart a classic story and most importantly a very pleasant and elegant rendition, which makes the film into a really interesting flick.

Im Rausch der Tiefe (1988)

Englisch The only really magical place in this movie is its ending. But it takes a long time to get there; way too long.

Čtyři slunce (2012)

Englisch Unfortunately, the best thing about this movie is the title song from the band Vypsaná Fixa, which is really completely divine and fits this film and its melancholy perfectly. Other than that, I didn’t understand a lot of people in this relationship drama, Anna Geislerová the least of all. I wonder if she herself understood the behavior of her character, because if she did, she defended her acting arguments perfectly. Similarly, I didn’t quite understand the character of Karel Roden, who, as usual, plays a character named Karel and is once again a jerk. The last surprise is Jirka Mádl, who has a Mohawk on his head and is a tough punker. Too bad there’s no more to see in this film. In retrospect, I realize that there are a lot of weird people in the film who are all fucked, and that’s the end of it.

Zuhause ist der Zauber los (2009)

Englisch So imagine that while Eddie Murphy doesn’t bring any great scenes to this film, as he did when he was a cop from Beverly Hills, on the other hand he doesn’t play twenty roles, including the little girl. I have to say that since I like Eddie, I also quite liked this film and I would say that the rather low rating on this site is given more by what the herd thinks about Eddie, not what the individual thinks about him. The film is not really bad, and as far as today’s family movies go I would say that it is quite pleasant and above average.

Into the Wild (2007)

Englisch An absolutely divine film in perhaps all possible and even impossible details. After all, how many times has anyone thought about their life and considered escaping into nature and living in a completely non-consumerist way, like in a preserve? This film is about a boy who gave it its fullest and opened the door for other people. Until then, Sean Penn was basically a great, but a bit strange actor for me. Now I have to say that he is also a genius filmmaker, because what he did with the actors cannot be described with words. I could feel the emotions from everyone, and the music really added a lot to that. Finally, after a long time, a film where the running time was not a problem for me, quite the opposite. I liked that even though the film could have been practically without dialogues, there is still something going on in it and there are still different people and different characters that the boy who ventured into nature meets. A film that evoked so many joyful, sad, positive, but also negative emotions in me like no other in a long time.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

Englisch Wes Anderson lives in a strange world full of strange and crazy people. It seems a bit as if his films had eaten a ton of mushrooms before the screening, and I watched the rain alternating with cloudy weather. And that’s when the moon comes out. Anyway, I have to say plainly that I expected a little more, mainly because of the great cast who appear in the film. That included both my favorite Bruce Willis and, on the contrary, Edward Norton, with whom I never know what to think, as well as the director’s staples like Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman, who are always joy to watch. I didn’t have a problem with the actors; what was worse was the storytelling and the scouts, who seemed to have crawled out of the factory for the absolute. It was nice, but it was weird and that’s why the three stars are just right.

Ip Man (2008)

Englisch One must be in a right mood for a kung fu ride. The Chinese make their movies a bit differently than what I’m used to. Their films could be compared to a Red Bull commercial in some respect, so I went into this film with some doubts. To my surprise, Ip Man is a completely natural and realistic film about the difficult situation of kung fu during the Sino-Japanese War. From a historical point of view, it was very nice to watch, and the fighting scenes were on the verge of genius. Although it is not emotionally all that tense, it was certainly interesting.

Mach's noch einmal, Sam (1972)

Englisch I haven’t seen Casablanca yet, but I understood that Woody Allen only took the best from it. This film is a classic Allen standard, which already at the beginning of his career mastered dialogues and did what it wanted with the viewer. I can’t give five stars to this film for the fact that although the ending was really beautiful, it didn’t tell me much, because I haven’t seen Casablanca, so if you really want to enjoy the film, then you should watch Casablanca first. Oh, and let’s not forget, Diane Keaton was really great here. I wonder about Woody’s secret for always having such beautiful women hanging around him.

Signál (2012)

Englisch I don’t understand why people hate this movie. I do admit that there could have been a little less of Dyk. Maybe at least the Nightwork music didn’t have to play in the pub all the time, and the ending didn’t have to be accompanied by the disgusting song he sang, and which had nothing to do with the atmosphere of the film. Other than that, however, in terms of story it was an interesting Czech film, which in my opinion was not completely badly made. I’m used to such a camera and it was possible to get over the shaking. Even the actors surprised me, Jiří Menzel the most, but Karel Roden was also great. All in all, I have to say that the acting repertoire was like from another world, and I really enjoyed the village. When we talk about the village, it seems located in the third world, and I’d say the authors went too far with the ruralness, and the same goes for the way they portrayed people from Prague. You can find crooks like that in every corner of our country, not just in Prague, so we shouldn’t discriminate like that. On the other hand, this movie remains an interesting affair from which I expected a far worse quality than what I actually got.

X-Men: Erste Entscheidung (2011)

Englisch Somehow I can’t bring myself to give this movie five stars, mainly because I’ve never been exactly fond of X-Men. The movies were great, but I never thought, like with Watchmen, that they were perfect and that I would devour every movie that had the word X-Men in the title. Anyway, I don’t mind X-men and that was also the reason why I gave this movie a go. However, I must say that this film is probably the best thing that could have happened to the franchise, because in addition to great actors, it features an absolutely perfect story, which, if you do not know the source material, you do not know how it will develop in the next moments. And that it will eventually develop differently than is customary in American films? That’s the icing on the cake. If I said a moment ago that actors were great, then I need to repeat that because they were truly divine. That goes for probably everyone who appears in the film, and there are a lot of characters. For example, the one-minute cameo of Hugh Jackman is totally great. The same goes for the special effects. I felt a bit sorry that X-Men weren’t closer to my heart. But if another film is made, which could easily happen, I will think about going to see it at the cinema. It seems that I’ve grown fond of X-Men after all.
