Alien Dead

So etwas Schlechtes habe ich schon lange nicht mehr gesehen. Vielleicht hätte ich es nicht einmal versucht, aber der einheimische Inhalt hat mich ziemlich neugierig gemacht und schlimmer noch, ich habe den Namen des Regisseurs übersehen. Der berühmte B-Film-Regisseur Fred Olen Ray versucht erst in seinem zweiten Spielfilm, als Schöpfer von Trash-Filmen, wie weit er gehen kann. Und glauben Sie mir, diese Orte sollte jeder Zuschauer als Strafe besuchen, um endlich zu erkennen, wo ungefähr die Grenze zwischen bewusster Trashigkeit und schamloser Schundhaftigkeit verläuft. This is more proof that I have seen too few things in my relatively short life and that there are still things that can surprise me in cinema. After a meteorite hits, the crew of a boat party turns into a bunch of zombies who look like stoned emo kids and destroy everyone who dares to swim in the lake or climb onto its shores. It’s a shining example of sloppy filmmaking professions such as cinematography (occasionally someone pokes the camera and it shakes), editing (a character doesn't finish a sentence and we’re already at the next location), lighting (non-existent), and post-production. The latter is quite the example because the dialogue often doesn't fall directly to the actors' facial expressions, we hear a rifle shot only about ¾ of a second after, and even the music (you don’t hear something this disgusting very often) is incorporated into certain scenes so loudly that you simply have to guess what the characters are saying. If you wanted to look for logic, story, atmosphere and, God forbid, suspense, you’d be facing a new Herculean task. This is so horrible that I’m reluctant to classify it as a guilty-pleasure. I think even really avid collectors of bad movies will be surprised by how bad this is. (05.09.2007)
