Elisabeth Moss stars as writer Shirley Jackson in this biographical drama directed by Josephine Decker. In the 1950s, Shirley is engrossed in the writing of her latest book about the disappearance of a young woman when her unfaithful husband Stanley (Michael Stuhlbarg) welcomes newly-weds Rose and Fred Nemser (Odessa Young and Logan Lerman) into their home. Ein Faden eines Phantoms, das aus der Modewelt in die intellektuelle Familie einer Horrorschriftstellerin und eines promiskuitiven Professors verpflanzt wird. Der Film ist unangenehm, kontaktlastig und für mich eigentlich zu distanziert. Aber das ändert nichts an der Meisterleistung von Moss und Stuhlbarg.
