Most came to the New World seeking their fortunes, but John Smith (MILES O'KEEFFE) arrived in 1607 to embrace adventure in the unexplored wilderness of the Americas. Diese gespielte Version wollte ich schon immer sehen. Während der Disney-Ära von Pocahontas entstand viel Ballast, aber dieser Film mit Sandrine Holt stach relativ heraus. Er knüpfte an eine kleine Tradition von Spielfilmen an: Pocahontas (1910), Pocahontas and John Smith (1924) und Steppe in Flammen (1953). Später wurde nur noch The New World (2005) gedreht. Das Budget von Die Legende von Pocahontas war eher bescheiden, daher sieht es alles wie eine normale Folge einer damaligen Abenteuerserie aus. Das Drehbuch und die schauspielerischen Leistungen sind aber gut und ergänzen den damaligen Disney-Narrativ sehr gut. Natürlich wird nur die frühe Phase der Beziehung mit John Smith behandelt.
