Eine neue App sagt jedem, der sie installiert, den exakten Zeitpunkt seines Todes vorher – und führt ihn notfalls auch herbei. Schon bald überschlagen sich auch für Krankenschwester Quinn die Ereignisse, die noch drei Tage zu leben hat. Eine App, die Deinen Todeszeitpunkt voraussagt? Kann doch nur ein Fake sein! Denkt anfangs zumindest die junge Krankenschwester Quinn, als sie diese herunterlädt und ungelesen die Nutzungsbedingungen akzeptiert. Ausprobieren kann man es ja mal. Während ihren Freunden noch Jahrzehnte Lebenszeit bleiben, zeigt Quinns Display etwas anderes an: Nur noch drei Tage zu leben und der Countdown läuft! Schon bald überschlagen sich die Ereignisse: Quinn erfährt von ersten Todesfällen unter den Nutzern und eine unheimliche Gestalt scheint sie auf Schritt und Tritt zu verfolgen. Immer verzweifelter versucht sie, hinter das Geheimnis der mysteriösen App zu kommen. Als sie Matt kennen lernt, dessen Zeit ebenfalls abläuft, wollen beide gemeinsam ihren Todes-Countdown stoppen – zwei Tage, ein Tag, eine Stunde. (RTL II)

It's a horror film for the not-so-demanding, but it kept me entertained; if I could forget about the second death, which would have been better off not showing anything, I'd probably be a little happier. I really liked the rather clever finale and I'd like to see the main character in something else.

I'd rather live in this world knowing that there's just a normal idiot behind this movie than knowing that the whole thing is a foul, calculated, purely output-oriented effort to extract money from youth through a combination of jump-scare horror, mobile apps, and pop references, all wrapped in a trendy female empowerment shell to give it a boost. Good thing we have a ruthless psycho sitting in on the state exams at FAMU, so nothing like that can happen here. I'm actually relieved.

The American production Countdown is a classic horror movie that has the potential to attract attention in the movie theatres, which is why it was released here, too. It is, however, not a groundbreaking movie, just a simple entertaining horror flick that has an interesting premise and an ending that is a little far-fetched. However, it could not have ended any other way, and if you turned a blind eye, you could leave the cinema quite satisfied after seeing the movie.
