Band Of Brothers - Wir waren wie Brüder (2001)

Englisch Probably the best war series or film I've ever seen. Except for minor details, it has absolutely realistic combat scenes, weaponry and equipment, a well-written script, and well-cast characters. I would never have expected to see anything like this made by the Americans. They never seem to bother with historical accuracy of combat equipment. Those who've seen Battle of the Bulge know what I'm talking about. Their strategy is the following: a tank’s a tank, and as long as it has tracks, who can tell the difference? This series shows that with a little effort they can achieve greatness. Plus, the show doesn’t just focus on combat action, it also portrays the characters very well, which makes it even better and more interesting. The only disappointment came when the final episode was over. ()

Currahee (2001) (E01)

Englisch After a long time, I decided to watch my favorite series again, and I had two reasons for it. The first one was simple - I missed it. The second reason was that I had finally read the book of the same name by Stephen Ambrose, and I wanted to compare fresh impressions from the source material with the work of the filmmakers. After the first episode, I was absolutely satisfied; the minor differences were understandable, and I would say that thanks to my knowledge of the source material, I enjoyed the episode even more than before. Der erste Tag (2001) (E02)

Englisch I think I have never seen such a high-quality and realistically shot film or TV episode about the first day of the invasion of Normandy. True, the creators could naturally focus only on small units and individuals, so they could pay much more attention to details, but even so, I have to say that I was absolutely thrilled. On the other hand, the official content of HBO Europe is a complete disaster. A swarm of planes is the third smallest combat unit. The smallest is, of course, one airplane, two airplanes surprisingly form a pair, and two pairs form a swarm (in an outdated tactic that disappeared at the beginning of World War II, swarms were formed by three airplanes). According to the author of the content, we were supposed to see four entire Dakotas. I was also intrigued by the cluster of German cannons, I really can't imagine such a tactical unit. And finally, I would be interested to know why the soldier has his face torn apart by grenade shrapnel due to machine gun fire. Great episode, poorly written content. ()

Carentan - Brennpunkt Normandie (2001) (E03)

Englisch This time it was a perfect and realistic spectacle, which I could only criticize for the appearance of the German armored vehicles. In this case, it would only be nitpicky nitpicking, so I rated it five stars without hesitation. Anyone who has ever played the game Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 will definitely agree with me that they experienced exactly such a Carentan almost as if they were there. ()

Die Neuen (2001) (E04)

Englisch I thought I wouldn't comment on distributor's content anymore, but the sentence "... and they are getting acquainted with newcomers who are supposed to replace them." cannot be taken seriously. What an idiot... but nevermind. Regarding the episode, I can only say again that it was great. The difference compared to the book was that Stephen Ambrose never used the term "Tiger" in connection with the activities of Company E in the Netherlands. ()

Kreuzungen (2001) (E05)

Englisch There was nothing to think about again here - full marks for a perfect episode. Contemporary movies about nearly invincible American soldiers who, when they are truly injured, turn into Terminators, look like a product of a sick mind next to such an episode. ()

Bastogne (2001) (E06)

Englisch My first foursome for one of the episodes only came because the creators incorporated a completely unnecessary storyline with a nurse. It was unnecessary mainly because the siege of Bastogne definitely didn't need to "enhance" itself with some touching almost romance, I mean, I think it was more than enough for a person to imagine being in the place of the boys from the 506th regiment. I also missed the information that Eugene Roe was nominated for the Medal of Honor for his actions at Bastogne. ()

Durchbruch (2001) (E07)

Englisch Again, an episode that I wouldn't dare to criticize, even if I wanted to. And I didn't want to. I have always been intensely interested in the Second World War, why it happened and still is, I have no idea. However, I have never desired any war, and this episode fully shows the ugly face of war that some people often forget in their speeches about heroism.// I would recommend the content creators to work intensively with a dictionary to understand the meaning of the words "permanent" and "massacre". Having a professional advisor wouldn't be a bad idea either, perhaps they could explain to them that an artillery gun is not loaded with bullets. ()

Der Spezialauftrag (2001) (E08)

Englisch And another great episode, I feel like I have to repeat myself as I don't know enough words to praise each quality episode in a new way. Despite Webster being the guide in the eighth episode, for me, it was clearly a Malarkey episode and Scott Grimes completely blew me away with his performance. ()

Warum wir kämpfen (2001) (E09)

Englisch I reduced the star rating for the second time, I did it again just because the creators unnecessarily expanded the plot, only to appeal to emotions. In my copy of the Ambrose's book, the passage about the concentration camp was missing, and I think it appeared in the series only because of Steven Spielberg. Otherwise, I absolutely agree that concentration camps, gulags, internment camps for Japanese-American citizens, and forced labor in our Jáchymov mines were disgusting abominations. ()

Kriegsende (2001) (E10)

Englisch I would find it difficult to imagine a better ending to this series and a more dignified farewell to the soldiers of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. The tenth episode was great, its story was in sharp contrast to what the unit went through during the Siege of Bastogne, and yet I couldn't tear myself away from it. Excellent work. ()
