The action thriller describes the events of the largest prison riot in the history of Czechoslovakia, which broke out in March 1990 in Leopoldov and was ended by an intervention of armoured personnel carriers. Above all, however, it follows fictitious events across various social strata that supposedly preceded the uprising. (Summer Film School)

Ein sehr wichtiger Film über das Thema Samt. Ich mochte schon Karáseks vorheriges Projekt Candidate sehr. Oder besser gesagt, die Erinnerung an ihn ist im Nachhinein besser als die erste kritische Begegnung. Amnesty ist mutig, wild und klug. Die einzelnen Figuren sind sehr markant und scheinen aus dem Leben gegriffen, wenngleich nicht ganz. Die Atmosphäre ist authentisch, die Verhältnisse beim Fernsehen Bratislava nicht mit Gold zu bezahlen. Geislerová übertrifft sich selbst, sie spielt seit 10 Jahren die reife Rollen, und langsam scheut sie sich nicht mehr, äußerlich entwürdigende Requisiten hinzuzufügen. Vašut war eine Überraschung, und Natalia Germani ist bei weitem die größte Überraschung auf slowakischer Seite.

The thriller Amnesty is riddled through and through with characters that are hard to sympathize with. Worthy of recognition, however, is that it depicts the often mythologized period around the Velvet Revolution without any embellishments. I can't fault the acting at all, and the riveting shots of the prison riot in Leopoldov are surely one of the coolest scenes in the history of Czechia and Slovakia. (85%)
